Lol. Eller's not playing on the fourth line, and Gomez isn't centering the third. Gomez will be gone, but if he isn't, than he'll be on the fourth line.

Well I'll believe it when I see it. I just don't see which team could offer something like that to Parenteau.

Half the teams in the NHL HAVE to spend money to get to the cap floor, that's why players like Leino Upshall Fleischmann Kopecky Bergenheim all got ridiculously bloated slaries last summer.

If Leino got 4.5/year, Parenteau can get 5.5-6/year as he has a better track record and the cap is up almost 10%.

I agree. I could see something like $4 mil for 3-4 years, but definitely not 5. I think Parenteau can be a consistent 20 goal, 50-60 point guy.

Make sure you tune in after July 1st if he doesn't re-sign with NYI, because he'll get 20-30% more.

even a home town discount would be something like 4-5 years at 4.75-5/year.

50-60 point UFA's are few and far in between on the UFA market. Leino got 4.5 mil x 6 years coming off ONE 53 point year. Prior to that he had 20 total NHL points over 68 games.

Andrei Kostitsyn could be an Isle for that kind of contract...

I'm going to assume that the player that the Habs draft on Friday will not play in the NHL next year.

Right now, our offense sucks big time. A bit in the Florida pattern from last year, the Habs need to get a few players that can produce adequately next year.

What we have now :

DD-Max-Cole
Bourque-Plek-Gionta
Geoffrion-Eller-Leblanc
Staubitz-Gomez-White
Palushaj-Blunden

1 - send Gomez away and have 7.3 more to spend

2 - sign Jagr, AK, Winnik and Dominik Moore to short term contracts.

DD-Max-Cole
Jagr-Plek-Gionta
Bourque-Eller-AK
Winnik-Moore-White
Staubitz-Blunden

Keep Leblanc in the minors all year. Hamilton will be very strong and should make a decent playoff run where guys like Leblanc will gain great experience.

The Habs would then be competitive for next year. Once they make the playoffs, anything can happen.

You have a point there. Too bad the same argument doesn't work in favor of trading Gomez or Kaberle.

I think it will allow us to trade Kaberle after the top UFA d-men are off the market.

Who could want Kabs by July 14th? (Top UFA D-men are usually off the market within two weeks) There has to be... some team willing to trade for Kaberle even if he's a #4 at best.

Seriously, let's look at "will be" instead of "have been"... Let's not waste a roster spot for those guys.

Btw, I didn't know Friedmann had a segment on Team 990 at 6:10pm. I love his blog on CBC and I highly recommend it to all of you who haven't closely followed him.
