An assistant coach doesn't make it through that many coaching changes simply because he's a good poker player and drinking partner.
Although Don Cherry loved him as a player, so maybe that has something to do with it...

I thought he was just coaching the forward lines?
from Portie:
"He'll handle the Blue Jackets' forward lines during games"

Remember when we used to blame Noel for everything, even though it was mostly unjustified? It's a similar situation with Toronto fans and Acton.

Well during the presser when both assistants were let go, Burke specifically cited the poor special teams as a big part of his decision.

And looking at that roster, it's not too difficult to see a very different reason as to why the team had problems in both areas.
Philippe Dupuis couldn't even make the Jackets roster. When he's one of your top penalty killers, you're in deep ****.

I get the feeling that Howson is trying the Captain Planet style of finding a head coach. 3 failed head/assistant coaches will combine into one kinda lame albeit successful head coach.
Can't be any worse than recent coaching, right?

I have a hard time believing he'd find anything left here to burn down. Then again, I guess that's what new blood is for.

Failed head coaches are in jobs throughout the league. One just raised a cup, and he isn't the first.
Sometimes it's about catching just the right mix of coaches and players more than any one guy.

Not pissing, moaning,*****ing, or anything of the sort, just saying, a quick perusal of their coaching records leave me feeling a bit less than overwhelmed. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and I hope they produce outstanding results for the Jackets.

Two-goal Noel! Although, two goals a game is looking pretty good right about now.

I can't get excited one way or the other about these hirings. I've been in "Show Me" mode with this team for some time now and am not planning on changing that mindset until proven wrong.

Hartsburg will be the new interim coach by what? November or December???
I think the Jackets will match last year's 0-8 start again or try to beat that.

I love this comment on the Dispatch section:

Love these guys. Good hires. We need more experience around here. Always have. The only thing I don't like about the hires is that it was Priest and Howson's decision. So they will be miserable coaches and fail. Seriously, do we have ANY reason to expect different?

Hartsburg brings professionalism to the team, but I'm not a fan of his style personally.

I like the fact that they are bringing in a couple of assistants with a boat-load of experience.
Acton was one of my favorite players growing up. Played with a ton of grit and heart but he still could score some goals.

i hear you on that. it's not like just because a coach isn't successful with one team he can't find success with another. i know we haven't had a whole lot of real experience behind the bench with our coaches over the course our franchise has been around, but who says that this group can't straighten out the team and show them how to play together
i'm hoping to see a better effort from the team this coming season and if these two can help us in the process i'm all for them. now let's just hope the jackets can have a successful year at the draft table and maybe we can start to get this team back on it's feet.

Yeah... fired coach Ken Hitchcock just won the Jack Adams.
I wouldn't put a lot of stock in the "but they've been fired before!!1!" argument.
