Cory Schneider

Look, Luongo speculation and rumors have been discussed to death for the past month, yet nothing of material has really surfaced (other than samjam99), so it is still entirely possible that GMMG surprises everyone and trades Cory Schneider.

I think right now it's a good time to kind get a feel on the value of Schneider just prior to the draft and see what kind of offers GMMG can get for him.

I feel he probably does trade Schneider, rather than Luongo.

Yup.

One of your Oiler boys offered more for Luongo. Not even close to a deal.

I don't think that even comes close, especially for a division rival.

Thats as bad as Paul Martin for Cory Schneider. Coming from a very passionate Pens fan, btw.
Also, why are Oilers fans not willing to trade Hall, RNH or Eberle but expect a #1 D or #1 Goalie like Schneider? You have the #1 OVR Pick again this year to draft Yakupov. Draft him and trade either Hall or Eberle for a starting goalie and there. You still have the first line with three 1st OVR picks plus a great young goalie. Solves a lot of problems and you will shoot up most likely into a playoff contender.

MPS was a former 10th overall pick who had an outstanding rookie year and if he didnt play in the nhl the last two years everyone would be extremely high on him.

But he did, so they're not.

Don't you mean if he did? Anyways, MPS couldn't even crack the lineup of one of the worst teams in the league. If we're trading Schneider, we would want an impact player back, something like Eberle, or Hall. Your choice.

I'm not saying he's a bust but in general the skilled offensive winger types are usually the first and most common among young players (there are exceptions of course) to break out in the NHL and start contributing at a young age. While you show more patience for a young center/dman/goalie for MPS his poor season last year is certainly cause for concern. Or at the very least that he will top out as an Andrei Kostitsyn type winger.

I hate giving up assets for goalies, but Schneider might be the one guy potentially available that I would break that for

it would cost the Devils way too much though methinks

I think the Devils need to get on that ASAP. Once Brodeur retires, all they got is Wedgewood and as far as I know, he is a great prospect however if he busts, NJ could end up where the Oilers are.

Thought I'd toss my 2 cents in before this thread becomes an Edm-Van p***ing contest in the same way the Luongo thread has degenerated for Tor-Van fans.

Edmonton is a really tough team to trade Schneider to. Your best assets (Hall, Eberle, RNH, #1) are too valuable to trade away even for a goalie with Schneider's upside (and most Van fans know this). On the other hand, the 2nd tier of Oilers assets (Gagner, MPS, Lander, Teubert) aren't at the level that Vancouver really wants or could use. I just don't think there is any chance that these two teams - who have no love for each other - are going to find any common ground between the "Schneider + Raymond + 2nd for Hall/Eberle" garbage and "MPS + Lander + 2nd for Schneider" garbage. That said, I totally expect this thread to reach version 5 or 6 well before the draft ...

How many times have the Canucks and Oilers made a trade? Never? I don't know for sure but probably. If Schneider is going to be moved to a divisional rival I'm sure a large overpayment would have to happen, and MPS isn't an overpayment.

And this is why SOME Canuck fans think trading Schneider and keeping Lu makes so much more sense. Picture these two scenarios:

Scenario A
Van trades Schneider, gets Henrique, and keeps Luongo in goal.

Scenario B
Van trades Luongo, gets Schenn+Kadri+2nd (probably the closest to a "fair" deal that I've seen here), and keeps Schneider in goal.

Scenario A sets Vancouver up to take a strong run at the cup in each of the next 2 years (until Sedin's contracts expire) plus Henrique projects as a real solid #2 for the next 10-15 years.

Scenario B gives Vancouver nothing immediate for the next 2 years and is a gamble that Kadri or the 2nd ever amount to anything significant in the future.

Waaaaay prefer Scenario A.

Who knows if NJ would consider trading one of their players though. That speculation is based on guessing. But I agree with the sentiment, if we could get enormous value for Schneider, and we could get little value for Luongo, it puts us in the best shape for the next few years to trade Schneider, and it's really not very close.

MPS is severely underrated, but there's no better opportunity in Vancouver for him than there currently is in Edmonton.

Vancouver's need for a centerman is quite a concern at the moment. Perhaps they should target one. Cheers.

MPS is very unimpressive

I'd probably rather have Raymond over him... for real
