Its certainly not a "hockey hit". Even less so then like Downie's hit on, who was it now for Ottawa, that got him suspended 25 games. At the speed of the game today, if you skate around like a nut looking to find someone not prepaired to take a hit, you will find a victim sooner or later. Nobody can protect themselves from all angles 60 minutes per game. Players who in those situations really look to make all the damage they possibly can, just won't get much respect from me atleast.

I mean, if Phaneuf catches a forward of guard skating up ice with the puck, I don't care much if a hit is a tad high or whatever. If there are arms involved. Its hockey. If you skate up ice with the puck, you should be prepaired to take a hit.

But these hits were the puck is bouncing, a player already is basically involved with a player on the other team, and another guy comes in at full speed and just destroys someone -- when those hits are okey, you put players in a position were anyone in the league can be seriouly hurt without having a chance to defend themselves. Look at just about any battle along the boards on the ice, and basically none of the players involved would be prepaired to take a hit from a player coming in at absolute full speed from their blind side. Phaneuf hit Sauer in that situation.
So do you have a problem with the hit Girardi threw in the game last night?

I wasn't really sure where else to put this, but I went fishing with him & his brother Kurt last weekend. We had a great time. He said he's feeling better and being in the boat wasn't going to be an issue (And it wasn't). I'd think that'd be a good sign. Here's a link to the video...

Really hope he comes back alright. Having him solidifies this defense.

It's really nice watching Mike enjoy himself. A good day of fishing looks like.

Glad to see he can perform daily activities like this. Hope he can come back at some point this season. He's such a rock on this team that his presence after he was knocked out by Phanuef was dearly missed against the better teams in the league. Getting him back, much like getting Staal back this past season, will be a big addition to the defense for this season.

I hope we get enough depth on D that they don't have to rush him back. Take your time Mike, we'll see you on the ice around New Years.

like you guys have said, glad to see Mike fishing and enjoying everyday activities. As a selfish rangers fan, I would love nothing more than to see him back on the team on opening night.

Some decent catches there. Nice.

Good to see Mike feeling better.

No reason to rush him. Is he working out? He looks to be in good shape. The season won't begin on time.

Still pissed at Phaneuf.

Missed Mike a lot last year. A really steady, strong guy on our D. I thought Bickel as his replacement did well at times but no contest between who's better--it's Mike Sauer all the way.

As a Rangers fan I hope he returns.

But, at the same time i hope he doesn't. If he's OK now, is it worth it, to risk getting hurt again? What if the next time its a life altering head injury. Look at Boogaard.

To be honest, just enjoy life. That's more important.

Yeah, he's in town through around July 4th. He's working out with his brother and a few others here in Phoenix. He was in awesome shape compared to us beer drinkers.

We really didn't talk about his injury a whole lot other than he said he's feeling "More normal".

saweeeet. Hope he keeps symptom free and can enjoy his life. Also sounds like if he keeps this up and gets more rest he should be ready to go at some point this yr. No rush of course.

I assume Kurt retires since his contract is up in Phoenix

Thats VERY good news. I am glad to hear he is feeling better and enjoying his off-season. I just hope he recovers fully so he can live a normal life. Would it be great if he could play again? Of course. But that is secondary.

Sauer is a rock back there. Easily one of the more underrated defensive defensemen in the league. His health not only solidifies the group, but makes it easier to stomach losing somebody else.

The lockout will help Sauer. The longer he takes to allow his brain to heal, the better off he will be. David Perron missed a full year. He had no issues when he returned.

I do expect him to come back, just like everyone else I'm not sure when, but I'm fairly confident he will come back.

Why? It was a clean hit.

We all know the first rule is to keep your head up. Still surprised AA hasn't had a concussion himself.

Glad to hear he is doing well. He is missed.

glad to have any sign of him period. At least he seems to be able to function well in day-to-day life, which is what matters at the end of the day, not hockey. Can't wait to hopefully see him back though

Yup. The issue was the helmet coming off after he hit and his head hitting the boards. If the helmet wasn't that loose, maybe it stays on.
