I like that we finally get a home game for the first game of the year, seems like the past few years we have always been away. Outside of the Bruins and the Penguins, the beginning of the season isn't too bad so hopefully we can get out to a quick start.

12 weekend day games, how many did we play this season? Hopefully that is an area of improvement in the upcoming season.

We'll have played our 4th and final game against Buffalo by November 17th haha. Should have a nice rivalry going with them the first month of the season.

I believe we played 16 or 17 afternoon weekend games..

So probably about 20 or so weekend games

Wasn't it like that with Carolina this year?

Some times could change depending on when NBC broadcasts and at what time. If the Flyers have a 3:00 p.m. game schedule now and that game isn't selected for NBC broadcast, the time could change to something earlier or later so that it doesn't conflict with NBC's exclusivity.

Flyers having home afternoon games before the weekend before Christmas is rare, aside from Black Friday.

Of course, we have to end the season against the Rangers. The one-year reprieve from that was nice.

Kings/Flyers not playing twice and not on national TV is an egregious error. No one cares about the Sharks, stop giving them to us twice.

They also travel the fewest miles in the league, I'd rather have that and take the 15 back-to-backs.

IIRC, the original accepted proposal required that each Canadian team face the three interconference Canadian teams twice per season. That started with the current format established for the 2008-09 season. That may have had to undergo alterations with the relocation of Atlanta to Winnipeg. Looking at Calgary's schedule, the Flames play MTL, TOR and OTT three times but WIN only once.

Also from quick research: Including this upcoming season, since the current format was adopted, the Flyers will have played (barring any work stoppages) San Jose twice in a season three times; Minnesota, Dallas and Los Angeles twice in two seasons, Chicago, Detroit, Nashville, Colorado, Phoenix and Anaheim twice in a season once and the three Canadian teams, St. Louis and Columbus twice in a season zero times. Perhaps, barring any format changes, that means St. Louis and Columbus will be two of the Wild Card teams in 2013-14.

Aside from what they do in Canada, I don't think there is any method to the madness of the wildcard teams.

Here's something unmentioned here:

Hockey Day in Canada will be hosted by Lloydminster, Saskatchewan on February 9th. The Oilers visit the Flyers, the Leafs and Habs square off, as well as Flames-Senators and Canucks-Jets.
Cool.
