Yeah. I hate how they're supposed to let the fans vote but I know they'd never let a predator beat a phlyer out for this. This has fix written on it more than the Bradley-Pacman fight an the NBa draft lottery

Oh, agreed, I'm not really bitter about it. Usually print up a custom cover anyway.

The video that popped up on the voting page had Giroux as the featured player. And if anyone was watching the "Red Carpet" stuff, Heidi Androl interviewed Giroux and slipped with the "You're getting, well we'll find out if you get, the cover". It was probably already planned for Giroux to win, they just didn't plan on so many votes for Rinne.

Rinne was going to win....yeah right.

Defense has very little to do with winning the Norris lately. It's become all about points from the blue line.

Yeah, cause that Lidstrom guy wasn't very good at defense.

His last award wasn't for his play in 10-11, it was for his overall career. There were several better defensive blueliners that year, including Weber. If the award is awarded on purely defensive play we never see guys like Green, Karlsson, or Campbell make the finalist stage. But, points are sexy and easy to cite when talking about a player ... positioning, cutting off lanes, stick work, etc aren't.

My point was that you said lately and I take that comment for the last 5-10 years. He was pretty good through that time and you're right, he did win it last year based on his career and Weber should have won it. It doesn't discredit his play on the offensive and defensive sides of the ice though.

If Karlsson had dominated like Coffey did when he was winning Norris trophies I could understand the Norris but the only thing that separated him from the pack was something like 20 assists and while that's impressive, it's not what the Norris should be about.

Fish got lots of Selke votes. Rinne was the #3 goalie for all star teams, and #7 in hart voting.

The 104.5 wake-up zone said the ratings for the award show were 0.1. Ouch, lol.

if i hadn't held out hope that we wouldn't somehow get screwed this year, i would have turned it off after the first bit with Matthew Perry. Absolutely brutal\embarassing writing.

I am not surprised. I spent more time caring about the Red Sox blow out of the Marlins. After hearing Karlsson won the trophy I sighed, rolled my eyes, shook my head at the Canadian media bent, and switched to the MLB network.

Lidstrom's 60 assists in 07-08 weren't a major factor in him winning.

Looking back 20 years, only once has the trophy gone to a player with fewer than ten goals ... it hasn't gone to a player with fewer than 27 assists or 50 points in that span. Melrose has a point when advocating two awards for defensemen with one focusing on defensive play and the other on offensive contributions.

Exactly. Read your post that I quoted, you were under the impression that the award was awarded "purely for defensive play".

And points are absolutely a part of that, as they should be.
