Honestly I don't know much about Murray outside of what I saw at the WC and I wasn't wowed by him from that sample.

What I do know is that if an 18 year old Dman was good enough to be selected first overall and make the step up to the NHL and help his team compete, the talking heads would be creaming themselves over him and that is not happening in this instance.

He's a great player, but as of now he is known as the guy who deflected 3 goals into his own net.

I wouldn't expect a 18 year old kid to do anything at the WC.

I'd say Murray has potential to be the best player in the draft...many players do, sometimes it ends up being someone outside the 1st round.

But betting on anyone other than Yakupov to be that guy, is foolish IMO.

Yes, top d-men are such a rarity in today's NHL that if Murray was a Doughty, Pieterangelo, Pronger, etc, there wouldn't be any doubt about it.

That Dreger comment actually made me laugh - talk about trying to cover all the bases.

I've tried to avoid calling him out for his World Junior performance because everyone has a bad game, but he was anything but impressive against his own peer group too.

I expect a lot more from a #1 overall pick than what Murray has shown. If they take him first it will be the worst draft blunder since the last time someone took a defenseman first overall.

If you were betting the odds aren't god enough to bet on Yak, take the 5-1 or 8-1 long shot.

With that being said RNH wasn't even at the WJC. I don't put too much stock into a 17 year old not doing well or not making a 19 year olds tourney.

odds are in favor of Yakupov for sure but with the Oilers all you really need is a 18.8% chance..

He was 18. He barely missed the 2011 draft's cut-off.

If they were food:

Yakupov - Butter chicken pizza from BP's
Murray - Rice cake

And I HATE rice cake, I don't care how good it is for my health.

Hmm, Stu tipping his hand? When asked about Galchenyuk, "Well we could use a centerman", and then talked about his drive and skill. He certainly sounded higher on Yakupov and Galchenyuk than he was on Murray. But he did say management has veto over his suggestion, although he didn't think they would use it.

If they firmly think Gally has Yakupov upside while being slightly bigger and a C, I can get behind that pick. But I sure would prefer the better bet at an elite player(Nail)

Yeah just heard that........doesn't that have to mean Yakupov?

He seems like the only player where people could come to a consensus on. If the pick was Murray, I think the scouts would be much more divided. Some saying Murray and some Yakupov

I don't see how that's disappointing. Murray is supremely talented, and may not do one thing that's truly elite, but does everything well. He handles himself very well, and gives 110%. Reminds me a lot of Jack Johnson, and he has "future captain" written all over him. I would take Yaks #1, but it's not like Murray is a stiff, and your defensive core isn't exactly the greatest thing since sliced bread. And if you guys miss out on Justin Schultz, it's pretty much slim pickings and as Dreger said yesterday, there's a lot of pressure on Tambo/Lowe to improve things on the defensive side if they head into next year with the same D pairings they had last year.

Yakupov is better. The current depth chart shouldn't count for squat when making a first overall pick. Taking Murray first would be as stupid as stupid gets.

Sounds to me like its Nail if there is consensus among the Oiler scouts.

I think they're milking this for Oil Change.

Murray is not going to make our defense better next season.
