Number 13, the "unlucky" one.

The other ones:
Roberto Luongo I - Dr Luooooo
Roberto Luongo II - From Vancouver With Love
Roberto Luongo III - Goldwinner
Roberto Luongo IV - Thunderpuck
Roberto Luongo V - You Only Get Traded to Florida Twice
Roberto Luongo VI - On Her Majesty's Secret Tire Pumping Service
Roberto Luongo VII - Jennings are Forever
Roberto Luongo VIII - Sieve and Let Die
Roberto Luongo IX - The Man With The Golden Medal
Roberto Luongo X - The GM Who Loved Me
Roberto Luongo XI - Luoraker

For reference, here the list of James Bond films I am basing the thread titles off of:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_James_Bond_films

This could be the last thread if he is traded at the draft.
Make it count (i.e. try to come up with some original ideas, not just repeat the last 12000 posts.).

No kidding. However, when the target asset in a trade holds negative value (Roberto Luongo), the team holding said negative asset must accept low trade value. It's just reality for the Canucks right now.

I fail to see how a top 5 goalie has negative value. You may hate the contract all you want, but what he brings and what he will bring for at least the next 5-6 years is very valuable.

this could go all summer. And the last 13 thread just as both fan bases going back and forth on each over the same arguments.

A top five goalie that lost his starting position. To a rookie. In the playoffs.

I don't quite think Luongo is top five.. or even top ten. Combine this with the fact that he has a terribad contract and your situation isn't looking very pretty.

You can keep repeating said party line. Sorry, I'm not buying what you're selling.

Why does he hold negative value?

Sure they probably wont get full value for him as he has a 10 year contract, but many times throughout all these threads the contract has been broken down.

He makes most of the money through the first 6 years, after that it goes to 3.6, 1.8, 1.2, and 1.2 million each year. ( if im a little off on the numbers my bad, havent had to explain it in a while.)

Add them together and that's about as much as he makes in any of the next 6 years.

Do you really think he will play 4 years making that little. And lets not forget for us its obviously not a little, but compared to what he's made every year in his career its very little.

He also has a NTC, not a NMC. This means that if his performance slips you can send him to the minors with no penalty and IIRC even if they change that in the new CBA it will be grandfathered in. (any experts in the CBA please feel free to correct me if im wrong)

Also Dreger and Mckenzie have also speculated that he only plays 4-5 more years unless he is still playing at a high level.

If its not the contract that brings his value to negative, what is?

Yeah, too bad we didn't have Scrivens/Reimer instead of Luongo/Schneider so we would be so much better off. Oh the worries of having two great goalies.

This is laugh worthy...

And I will say it once more. Can we please deal him to Florida?

Both sides liked
Ellerby
Upshall

And what you will be on the hook to pay him (and take in a cap hit) after those 5-6 years is the issue.

He's a great goalie, but he's in line to be paid A LOT and have a big cap hit for a long time. If you take on that contract you are putting all your eggs in one basket. If you end up with a great young goalie you'll end up in the same position as the Canucks, trying to unload Luo on someone else so you can play your cheaper and almost as good (or as good or better) goalie.

GMs aren't so short-sighted as one playoff round. I believe they trust in themselves and their coaching staff. If a GM knows a player has talent, he is likely to believe that his coaching staff can bring the talent out of the player. Most GMs look beyond the last 1 or 2 seasons of a player... very little "what have you done for me now"

Sure, fans can agree on a deal, but Florida's financial situation leaves them in no position to accept that kind of money. Not going to happen.

You won't be on the hook to payhim very much after 6 years.

I don't like that contract. Upshall is overpaid for what he brings, Ellerby was a healthy scratch for the Panthers, and that 1st round pick is a very late 1st round pick.

7.8 Million dollars is a lot of money.

21.3 Million dollars is a lot of cap hit.

Florida would like that though, no? High cap hit, low salary.
