I agree. If he doesn't want to stay, get the best deal possible.

lol, actually my hope would be to see staal center a line between kane and wheeler so that wouldnt work out so good for me . I think our first round pick is pretty good actually, could possibly take rielly, trouba, faksa.. ect. the top 10 is very stacked this year

Well, tomorrow or tonight may be eventful now that Staal has made it clear he doesn't intend to re-sign.

Turning down a deal is not the end of the world. They are called negotiations for a reason, I see no reason to fret yet. Maybe if by the start of the season negotiations appear to be stalled, then I start to worry.

I am pretty firmly on the "no-trade" wagon here. Having a healthy Big 3 for the first time in years would be fantastic. Make a push for the cup this year, then see if you can trade Staal's rights after the season if he still wont sign. Someone would cough up something decent for the rights to negotiate early.

If Staal won't re-up in PIT, where he loves it, not expected to extend with anyone else who may trade for him. Except perhaps Carolina. #bro

That's not good...

Yep. Trade him now while he still has value. He'll develop Comrie-itis and have no more hips by training camp from all this summer sex.

Damn you Bob. I'm about to go camping and will miss the draft. Now I'm going to be constantly checking my wife's phone (I'm too cheap to get a smart phone).

The last tweet from mckenzie is the kind of stuff not good to hear. Who will give us a fair offer for Staal now? If hes not expected to signt with any team exept "maybe" carolina. Not even Carolina have to pay up now. Boy does the sutter+8th+prospect looks like a pipe-dream now?

yep theres absolutely no circumstance where we can not trade him for as much as possible if hes unwilling to sign a deal.

That part of it is just speculation by Bob. It seems logical that if he loves it in Pittsburgh and wouldn't resign a long term deal then he is unlikely to do so elsewhere. That does not make it true.

I doubt the Pens were ****ing around when offering a 10 yr deal......they probably offered him exactly the amount that was going to be possible to pay out to him.

No one would cough up much to negotiate early with Jordan Staal. In fact he might bring the least amount that any player in early negotiating rights because of his strong ties to family members in the league. You really think someone like Minnesota is gonna give up a lot to negotiate early with him when there's a huge chance he'd end up in Carolina?

The one thing that sucks a bit is that the last deal was just until he would be UFA. Exactly the kind of deal that the Kings refused to sign with Doughty. Geno and Sid gave up a year of UFA on their last deals.

Wish we knew the coin on that 10 year offer, if any of this is true. Bob is turning into a pretty crappy source though. He usually doesn't speculate on rumors and "hearing" is a strong rumor word, imo.

I think he'd be worse off not trading Staal and having him walk next summer for nothing.

Going by the times on his tweets, he posted those within 15 minutes of landing in Pittsburgh. Weird timing.
