What is it you expect him to say in a presser?

...or maybe because he regards the only sides as "done" or "not done". If it's not done, it's no closer than it was at the deadline.

There has been a lot of discussion about leverage and negotiating and offers and expectations etc etc etc.

Do yuo really think he's going to come out at a media event and tell everyone "well we had this offer from this team and another one from here. We think that maybe we should ask for another piece here."

Come on people. Unless you're sitting in the room and listening on the speaker phone we got no idea what's going on.

I think you always are best to (1) not have a press conference when there is literally nothing to report or (2) pretend interest is higher than it is in hopes someone falls for it. This was a total waste. After his little tantrum at the deadline, it is as if the guy is trying to blow this.

#CBJ GM Scott Howson said meeting with Rick Nash's agent, Joe Resnick, lasted nearly an hour. "We exchanged information. I prefer to ... "... keep what was said quiet. I think that's the best way to operate. It was a good meeting."

It's a media event planned some time in advance. I would extremely surprised if every GM isn't scheduled to do one just prior to the draft.

Sometimes if it walks like a duck and it quacks like a duck it's a duck. Don't try so hard to make it out to be something else.

I hope I am wrong but I am preparing to be underwhelmed this offseason re: the draft and the Nash situation

I think I may have been more disappointed hearing talk of trading down. If we are trading down, we'd better be getting a legit top 6 forward. Here's an idea--we trade down with Anaheim and take Bobby Ryan off their hands in the process, then eliminating competition with the Nash trade we get a decent return.

Wait, that sounds creative or aggressive. This GM doesn't have the stones for it.

Now he thinks its best to keep the discussion with Nash and his agent quiet?!

Where was that thought at the trade deadline.

I think that comment wins this portion of the discussion.

Back to talking about deals with no chance of happening...

Why would Anaheim do that?

Well, gee, maybe that's why this wasn't a press conference and instead a short-term pre-scheduled Q&A session with the media relating to some significant event - y'know, like the NHL draft - taking place tomorrow.

Just a thought. I mean, I know we're all obsessed with berating Scott Howson and seeing what happens to Nash (apparently in that order), but, y'know, there's other things going on too.

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!

MT @RealKyper: #CBJ: Names from #Sharks being speculated in potential Nash deal besides 1st round pick include Clowe Pavelski and Demers.

Please dear God include Pavelski and I'll be happy.

I'd like to have that (alleged) trade as well. Hell, just make it Pavelski, Clowe and a 1st.

I think the best way to go would be to deal Nash and come out of the weekend with Joe Pavelski, Antti Niemi and Filip Forsberg.

I'll be honest, I don't know why Murray is looking to trade Ryan in the first place, so I'm going under the assumption a brain tumor is pressing on an area of the brain that blocks out reason.

Honestly? There has to be something else going on behind-the-scenes. It could be that the relationship has soured for some reason, and that Murray is looking to get a Nash-style return for a guy he wants to move.

The brain tumor theory is interesting though. Or maybe Ryan's mother was too close to Murray during one of his chair-throwing tirades.

Lot's of talk of what Nash would do with good linemates...can you imagine Nash on a line with Perry and Getzlaf? If his stats didn't go up on that line they never would.

Plus how good would Ryan be when removed from that line?

Interesting to think about but not gonna happen.
