Why? We have Cole and Patches. That looks pretty good to me.

Pacioretty - Plekanec - Jagr
Bourque - Desharnais - Cole
Leblanc - Eller - Gionta
Moen - UFA - White
Put Leblanc in the AHL, Bourque on the 3rd line and acquire a left winger for the 2nd line: Parenteau or Evander Kane.

Freidman was on FAN today and said last year Jagr was very difficult to negiotate contract with. He kept wanting more money eventually both Pitt and Detriot got fed up with him. Even to the point of Holland going public and saying Wings were done with Jagr. First time he has done anything like so in his career. Also there are groin issues and he is known not to put out effort every night. On the plus side he can contribute some and is very good with young players

I think a Jagr-Gomez-Kovalev line would be awesome...

I'd be pretty pleased with this coming out of Free Agency:

Erik Cole - Tomas Plekanec - Jaromir Jagr
Max Pacioretty - David Desharnais - Brian Gionta
Rene Bourque - Lars Eller - Aaron Palushaj/Louis Leblanc
Travis Moen - Jay McClement - Ryan White

It doesn't matter as long as they score goals

Okay, if you wanna go this route, how about making a deal with whatever later pick(s)/player(s) it would take to pick Tomas Hertl at the right spot? I've been interested in that dude for a while now, and his boyhood hockey idol was/is Jagr, and his favourite place to visit is Canada. Move him to the left wing and:

Hertl - Plekanec - Jagr, maybe as a second line to MaxPac - DD - Cole? Don't know how they'd make out, but I think they'd all at least have a fun year, lol.

Jagr was sheltered pretty well this year and probably can't handle Plekanec's defensive assignments at this point his career, ditto for any 18 year-old.

If the Habs were to get Jagr he should slot in on Desharnais' wing getting the soft, offensive minutes of the Habs forwards.

****, I would love to come out of the draft somehow with Yakupov/Galchenyuk AND Hertl. Wet dream.

Telling you right now, if brass manages to pull that off right there, they'll be immune to any criticism from me until at least the end of the season. Build a playoff battle-worthy 3rd line (include Gionta?) to take care of whatever toughest defensive responsibilities people are worrying about wrt Plekanec. Moen - Eller - White/??? 4th line maybe? Could get interesting, provided the defense is addressed first and foremost after the draft (because no draft pick is going to come in next year and provide the solution, imo).

Even if they traded Price or Subban to acquire Yakupov?

Are Evander Kanes growing in trees now? What would you give Winnipeg so we can acquire him? I mean, I'm all for it, but seriously, what you give them??

And no way they go after Parenteau. Not that he's bad or anything, but his value is pretty much biased since he played on a line with Tavares and Moulson. Still, the guy deserves a chance to prove what he's worth and you never know... but I'd be skeptical of another 60+ points/year on his part not playing with top line pure talent, more over playing with Bourque and co... meh.

I think Parenteau could be a 55-60 point guy with Plekanec-Gionta and with #1 PP time. He is a slick passer and I think he would fit in well with Markov and Subban on an umbrella set up with Desharnais plus Pacioretty or Cole.

I'd only sign Parenteau if it was for a 1 year deal. See what he has to offer, but no commitments. Honestly I don't think he is worth it, but I would love to be proven wrong.

There is no way his agent lets him sign a 1 yr deal...he will get an offer for 4-5 yrs, around 4-5 M per...supply vs demand boys...

Are fans on this board seriously thinking about raising the mean age of the Habs roster? Are they willing to ganble that Jagr might nudge the Habs into the playoffs? The gamble could fail miserably.

Thats why its a gamble lmao. But Jagr still has it and it wouldn't "nudge" us into the playoffs remember that we also had by far the most man games lost in the league. He would only add depth and 50-70 pts on our team which we need and could get for a somewhat cheap price in jagr

How is it a gamble? Were not trading an asset for him. I doubt he comes here tho

Exactly. I see it repeated around here often that salary cap isn't really an issue, hence why keeping Gomez supposedly isn't the worst thing imaginable, so why not add someone who is better than at least half the current roster for what stands to be a decent price and let the cards fall where they may?
