He mentioned a third team in the mix, I wonder who it could be?

Probably.....Can't think of any other logical team. So the three teams are Toronto, Florida, and a mystery team (Chicago?).

Columbus is the logical one. A few people have tweeted Chicago doesn't want to touch Luongo's contract.

True, forgot about Columbus. Although I doubt Luongo would waive to go to Colombus....

Maybe he want's a place with literally ZERO pressure?.

CBJ would be a perfect fit if you think about it that way.

Look at the rim-job the media gives Nash for hiding in Columbus and escaping criticism.

So it was just Dreger trying to gain viewers for the next Sportscentre.

I'm thinking San Jose as the secret team Dreger mentioned on TSN.

Someone on the main boards mentioned Luongo's agent said the reason the asked for a NTC was so that he didn't end up in place like 'Columbus' haha.

If it's san jose will involve clowe
If it's toronto will involve schenn
If it's florida, will involve 1st + player (versteeg?)
If it's WPG will involve buff/kane/1st + prospect?
If it's CBJ will involve Nash (in a monster package)

Just throwing some things out there.

Having two great goalies seems to be a problem only winning teams have, so unless you are against winning I see no problem with acquiring Luongo for a low price.
Louongo takes home $6.714 mil in real $$ for the next 6 years before it starts to drop. There is no chance he is retiring and leaving that kind of money on the table.

So your 3-4 years for Reimer to take over the #1 spot away playing the majority of the games, relegating Luongo to being the highest paid backup in the league is not realistic.

If it does occur, and you think that is actually what is going to happen, than logically that should put you against a Luongo trade because you're looking for a 3-4 year stop gap solution and not a 10 year deal of a goalie already 33 is the best option for Leafs and Reimer/Scrivens?

Or you need to explain how putting a $6.7 mil goalie in a back role, and playing limited games in 3-4 years while turning the reigns over to a young goalie makes sense?

Wouldn't be surprised because their window is closing but does Gillis want to get knocked out of the playoffs by Luongo?

Unfortunately I think leafs will end up with nothing this weekend other than 5th pick. And like alot of bigger named stars...luongo will end up somewhere else. I just can't see van dealing with toronto.

What doesn't make sense to me is that Dreger said the Panthers will have problems signing Garrison to a long term deal, that they couldn't afford it.

Does it make sense that they're interested in Luongo? Or am I missing something here?

that sounds pretty typical of Dreger

I find he contradicts himself quite a bit.

I think the minimum amount of time Luongo plays well for is 3-4 years, but he could easily play for longer. After 6 years he can easily retire, if he has not already (which most experts believe will happen, and have said he has hinted at).

You are also acting like Reimer, Scrivens and Luongo are last three goalies ever. There are 4-6 drafts between now and then, I know its a crazy idea but in that time we could possibly attempt to draft a goalie and develop him properly. When he is able, and in the NHL, he is behind an experienced starter, rather than thrown into a starting position with the weight of a whole city on his back in an attempt to save a season.

I understand where you are coming from, but I think we are passed that stage. If we get Luongo we have a chance to win with this current group of players. How much longer do you think our core is going to hold out? Most of our top players are entering their prime now, and if we are finishing with a top 5 pick next year why not just restart the entire rebuild?

Why would the Jackets acquire Luongo but give up Nash? Columbus is a long way to competing and adding Lu would be a start but then giving up your best forward by a large margin? It wont really make them better..
