Am I the only one that finds it comical that even assistant coach hirings are even causing rage now?

Good ol' HF Boards at its finest.

did you miss the part where our pk was almost dead last last season? and that the guy we are hiring to do our pk is someone who led the bjs to the bottom of the league? the assistant coach hiring was giong to be critical for this offseason, and this apparently is the guy they found.

It's hard to judge any coach off a roster and team like the one he had. Buffalo's penalty kill was very good when he was an assistant there.

Exactly. He was given chicken**** and was told to make chicken salad. His tenure as the Sabres A.C. and as H.C. of Manitoba in the AHL are more encouraging than his tenure in Columbus.

There are some assistants who don't do well as HCs like Ramsay. Let's hope this is the case with Arniel.

For all the griping about TM, he has skipped many of the common pitfalls for HCs.

Arniel is the right call.

If you can't move underperforming players and are madly in love with your koala bear, then prop up another pawn to take all the flak.

Who knows? He's done a fine job in some places, and did terrible with Columbus, but who wouldn't? Won't know 'til we see what happens, I guess.

we also had a problem with scoring goals last year, too... maybe we should find the lowest-scoring free agent forwards and sign them all to multi-year contracts with NTCs

I don't mean to 'keep piling on' but I honestly mean this, how? I mean, maybe he works out, but if you are basing the hiring on things like:

PK coaching... hrm, nope.
PP coaching... again, terrible.
Professionalism... hahaha

If it works out, someone made a seriously impressive gut call, cause the evidence would seem to point to him being the worst possible choice. (among 'qualified people' of course. Any of us would technically be 'worse')

So we have an assistant coach running our pk but Columbus has their head coach running the pk?

Why should anyone be evaluated based on their time coaching essentially an AHL team vs. NHL teams? Columbus was TERRIBLE. Last time he was an assistant coach (for Buffalo) his PK was top 3 in the NHL.

As an assistant? If he comes here he will likely focus on one thing

I don't think so... My guess is McLellan takes complete ownership of the PK next season. This would be something he absolutely has to oversee himself
