Agree. But that means Couturier has to take the next step in his offensive development. Briere has to at least be consistent as well. But he is getting older and he is a smaller player so he is on the decline.
Its hurts the depth down the middle but i think its time to dump this deep center model. Flyers need to get stronger in other areas. They need to get more better role players for the bottom lines at center.
Maybe we can persuade them that Read is really a C, and that Voracek would fit better with that Czech thing they have going there (Hanzel, Vrbata, Klesla).

It is odd--I'm not feeling quite as enthusiastic about this as everyone else seems to be. Maybe it is the Bryzgalov effect? I see Yandle and I wonder if he's benefited from playing in a system that doesn't, you know, consistently leave defenseman exposed.
Don't get me wrong, I know he's a clear upgrade on what we have. I guess I'm a just a bit skiddish.
My main concern would be while they land Yandle they are losing the offense of Read, Schenn, and as of right now Jagr. That's a lot of points to make up for. People don't want to hear it but I still say the best rumored deal for the Flyers in terms of what they give up is JVR Bob and a 1st for Nash. To me, Schenn is going to be a star in this league and if we move him to the Yotes with Read I have the sinking feeling we will be seeing the beginning of Flyers West II

Well, I share your concern, but not your conclusion. For one thing, it appears the cost for Nash would likely include Read as well as JVR, at least judging by the other rumored offers (Ottawa's in particular).
I just wonder if we couldn't sell Phoenix on Voracek, Read, and a 1st; or maybe Voracek, Read, Cousins and a 2nd. Something like that.
I recognize C is a need--but they seem a bit light on the wings too. The do have Vermette and Hanzel going forward as top-6 centers.
If the asking price is any steeper than that for Nash I would move on. Its a great addition to the team but not a make or break necessity and it only makes sense for the right price (insert pawn stars picture). Anaheim seems to be demanding Schenn which is probably going to prevent Ryan from coming here, again same as above. If all else fails Toronto has been trying to get their hands on JVR for awhile and have a plethora of young defensemen to try and work something out.

Would they really want a center, or would they just want a top-6er? I'd prefer to move JVR+ for Yandle. I'm sure they'd ask for Schenn/Couts but maybe we could work out something for JVR+Read++... Come to think of it, I'm sure they'd ask for Couturier, born in Phoenix...
Would love Yandle on this team. Great locker room guy, fantastic puck mover. Not the greatest defense, however. Would probably get ripped apart a la Carle except that he has a chance at 50-60 points and as such would be free from the fans wrath.

N. Grossmann - A. Meszaros
Pretty good defense in NHL 13.
I'd probably try to ship Meszaros out to somebody and roll with Carle-Bourdon/Gustafsson on the bottom pairing. Carle and MAB showed some good chemistry this year.

hes exactly the type of defenseman this team needs. It would make Carle expendable.
