I see Smid and Hammer as the exact same type of players, who is better is an arguement. I think they are both very underrated players, outside of people who are fans of their teams.
That is one of the worst trade proposals I have ever seen on HF
Give up a top 4 dman and a good prospect to move up 8 spots in draft (Not even moving into top 5)
Congrats
Tokarski isn't worth a 2nd round pick
Simple Hammer for #19 makes more sense
Hammer for the 19th ruins the Hawks D.
Is my proposal really that bad? Tampa gets a top 4 Dman who showed great chemistry with the Bolts #1 Dman, a legitimate center prospect and the 18th overall.
Gaustad got a freaking 1st rounder. Hammer ++ should get a higher 1st.

Hammer isn't getting a higher first, your proposal has him and a prospect moving their own pick up 8 spots. Terrible deal. A low second could move you up those spots.

But we had no way to see into future and see that Hammer's development would stall
This. Its tough to get down on the Hawks here, because Hammer at the time looked to be budding into a real asset. However, his offensive game hasn't developed, he doesn't move the puck well, and since he got suspended for the bad hit against the Sabres, he plays with the ferocity of a tufted tit-mouse. He blocks a lot of shots, good pker, and is defensively sound. He's just not the player we all thought he'd become.
As for the Montador news, this tells me the Hawks brass thinks Olsen can step in and play Monty's role going forward. I liked the signing at the time, I thought we needed a tough, good 3rd pairing guy and Monty fitted that well. Unfortunately his concussion problems really hampered his play. I don't think they'll get anything of value for him, I'd personally hold onto him and see if he can even play anymore. I'm not worried about cap $, Suter to the Hawks is a pipe dream.
You think the Oilers would want a marshmallow for a D, he gave out less then 50 hits last year and that's for a defensive D.
Player _____BS HTS
Hjalmarsson..142 42
Smid.............184 186
Schultz..........165 83
Petry.............126 126
By calling Hjalmarsson a marshmallow, you are making it pretty evident you have not watched him play. I am the first one to admit I would love to see him hit more, but to say he is soft is the furthest thing from the truth. Guy will step in front of literally anything with no regard for his body. Also, though he doesn't hit often, he can absolutely hammer guys from time to time. He actually used to be relatively physical until he got suspended against Buffalo (forget exactly who it was he hit).
I have a wird feeling that Ottawa is waiting for a Nash decision before it goes all in on Hammer. I wouldn't be surprised to see something around him and the the 15th pick.
Wouldn't be my first choice for LHD, but would Chicago have any interest in something around D'agostini? Not sure what your depth is looking like on wing but I remember seeing Carcillo on one of the top lines last year...

He's a good shot blocker, but he won't hit anyone. If the suspension was the excuse last year for his lack of hitting, what was the excuse for the 2010-11yr when he had 46hts and in the 2009-10yr when he had 59hts. What do you call a big D that won't hit?
