Decent deal. Although i would say a 2nd round pick instead of a first would be more realistic. But the first in it isn't bad either.

Of course he will say that's what it was.

He made a sweeping generalization of 15 teams.. Not hard

Do you really think that's enough? Not to mention what other teams will give up.

Yandle is an outstanding offensive defenseman. He is among the best at QBing a PP. But when it comes to defensive skills he has more work to do in that department. He is above average when it comes to defensive ability. He is not an elite d-man.
Well the guy that just won the Norris has defensive skills he has to sharpen up on to.
Not saying he's on that level but he does have a shot at being close.
So i would thing he's worth quite alot especially to a team in need of a Dman of his caliber.

Islanders would never offer that.. Too much potential to pay players little to reach the cap while they are still on ELCs

Yes, its a alot but frankly Keith Yandle is one of the best defensemen in the league and the Islanders need D very bad.

Isles have one of the deepest prospect pools in the league, we can afford doing this deal because they still have Strome, Nelson, Cizikas, Kabanov, Lee, Sundstrom, Donovan, Mayfield etc all in the system.

You have to give to get

From a Sens POV, we can afford to give up Zibanejad, Foligno + 15th overall to shore up our D for the next decade. We gave a ton of forward prospects, but not many D prospects, so we outbid, get Yandle and cement our D core.

Would make sense if he went to a team that needed defense and had forwards to move.

Best fit IMO:
Anaheim
Tampa Bay
Philadelphia
Edmonton

Possible Fit:
Toronto
Chicago
Vancouver
Detroit
Pittsburgh
Winnipeg

Some names that would make sense and have been rumored about recently would be Bobby Ryan, Patrick Kane, Jordan Staal, etc. Not sure what Detroit would give up to get Yandle, but he'd be an immediate fit there. Also, not sure Edmonton would be able to expect to get Yandle without giving up one of the big 3 or the 1st.

When discussing a trade for Yandle, only one Philly player should be off the table (Giroux). The rest should be on, including Couturier.

The Belanger part is silly since they would want a player of note, so I would add Pitlick and Omark.

Yandle, Hanzal

for

1st,Gagner, Pitlick, and Omark
I don't think Belanger is as "silly" as it seems. Remember just one season ago he scored 40 points playing for them, and Tippet really likes veteran centers. He's certainly not meant to be the main piece, just a guy who can help them out in a middle 6 role, which is actually less than where they used him before in making the playoffs (he centered Doan-Whitney, which does mean 40 is probably inflated a little although his career other). Clearly the main pieces are Yakupov for Yandle, and Paajarvi+(lets say Lander as he could help replace Hanzal in time) for Hanzal with Belanger thrown in to help Phoenix with their center depth.

I do see where you are going with sending Gagner back, but i don't know if it helps the Oilers as much as it needs to in order to send away the 1st. The purpose of getting Hanzal is for a tough minutes 3rd line (i.e. the Horcoff role) and to continue allowing Hopkins and Gagner offensive minutes in the top 6. I think this would fix one weakness and open another. I'm a huge Gagner booster, so maybe i think too much of him but IMO i think HF thinks too little of him. IMO he should be clearly more valuable than Turris, and he ended up having very good value.

Seeing as how they made maybe the biggest blockbuster trade of the year last year not sure what you are talking about. Also have ownership on better financial footing. They have more assets they can trade then most teams, no issue with cap space, and a need. I would not say book it but I would not dismiss it for the horrible reason you just suggested. Armstong has shown he will make bold moves.
