Sign stop gaps, bring in Staal after this season. Explore the big trade market after another season or at this deadline. Make smart moves, bring in depth. That is what needs to be the agenda. Don't do anything stupid. This team is good enough to win, just needs to be tinkered with enough and a couple small pieces added.
Good post
Resign, MDZ, Prust ( not over $1,65M), Biron ( or sign UFA Gustavsson if $$ for Biron is too much)
Explore Bickel, Mitchell and Feds to short deals
Sign one of Whitney, Jagr, Smyth (Doan and Selanne are both pipe dreams imo) up front. Short deal
Sign one of Kubina or Sarich on D (also explore D Murray for nonroster assets). Short deal.
Be very aggresively in on the Schultz sweepstakes
Draft wisely
Great opportunities will present themselves up ahead. Be so certain.
Patience....
Would you guys do this deal? I'm only hesitant because our depth at center would be very weak after this deal. You have to admit, the value is pretty close though. Ducks fans accepted this one as fair value. Oh well, I guess it's MILLER TIME lol.
Its fair, very fair. But I don't think we can do any deal with Stepan, unless we have 2nd line center we can pop right in. Ani can be a fill in but its going to hurt us significantly down the middle.
One major reason the Rangers could end up holding onto those picks is that with the impending collective bargaining agreement negotiations, teams’ uncertainty regarding the salary cap and several other factors could leave them hesitant to pull the trigger — particularly on a player such as Nash, who carries a whopping $7.8 million annual cap hit through 2017-18, or on any expensive free agent.
“As far as free agency, the uncertainty of it all will change everything,” Gorton said. “At the end of the day, to get a really good player, sometimes you extend yourself more than you would normally do, but in this case we don’t know what the number’s gonna be, the cap’s gonna be, we don’t know a whole bunch of scenarios that have to be worked out between the league and the union, and so I think you have to work cautiously, don’t do anything stupid, and don’t do something so under the new rules there won’t be any kind of penalties for you or hardships that put you into tough situations. So I think we’re business as usual, but I think our eye is on not doing anything stupid, too.”

Not big on Jagr. Love Whitney. Smyth fits in well too, but in the bottom 6. Sarich yes, Staios as another option. Kubina is LH, so most likely no.
If the Rangers don’t make a blockbuster trade and instead look to move up in the draft, Clark said it would probably be to get into the range of the 20th to 25th pick.
Typically, the Rangers draft the best available player so Clark said they wouldn’t necessarily target a forward despite defense depth being an organizational strength.
"We could have used more depth this year [up front], going as deep as we did," Clark said. "But you never have enough defense.
Some of the very people who in earlier threads were complaining about some of the trade proposals for Nash, Ryan, Radulov are now advocating a trade for Yandle. lol.
We have our LD set, We dont need Yandle and certainly not at $5.25m per year. A little hypocrisy here.

Don't they usually announce the cap number for the season before the draft? I mean I know the number will likely change with the new CBA, but still.
The NHLPA needs to vote on their 5% bump. There has been nothing reported on any vote had taken place this week. The NHLPA has a 3 day meeting starting on Monday. They will probably vote then. The PA will also formalize their plans for the CBA discussions. Which players will be on the negotiating committee. Fehr is taking his sweet time. Even if they vote for 5% bump, the cap number is going to change in the next CBA.
So the Rangers have NO interest in meeting the asking price set by Howson. Brooks wrote the Rangers dismiss the price out of hand without even thinking about it. They don't have the NHL ready talent Anaheim wants for Ryan since they have their best young players on the untouchables list. Which way do they go?
Did you see the way Gorton and Clark were talking about Kreider yesterday on the video chat? They didn't have to say anything. Its written all over their faces. They love Kreider. It gets annoying when someone like Aaron Portzline believes Kreider is available. He puts it out there on the internets. The Rangers would not include Kreider when he was a college player at BC. After the way he played in the playoffs, why would they include him?

It's quite unbelievable that people really would think Kreider is available now after his performance in the playoffs. If Howson is still asking for him then he really doesn't have a clue.
I'm convinced, no Nash or Ryan and its
Ok. We just can't part with the players
They would want.
Seems like the players to be moved are AA
and Duby, along with a prospect and pick.
We may not be able to get a top 3 scorer
This year but we can still get stronger in
A move for Clowe or Ott. That and a depth
Defensive move.
I hope we take a chance on Semin
He's a much better option than people

Best post i seen in a long time. It's ridiculous how people here wanna trade players who we got to the ECF with, it's amazing.
It's because they are actually being shopped my man. If you're going to read one post please read the other posts around it which explains that they are being shopped by the Rangers so that's why people are talking about them...
People need to calm down and stop trying to ***** about everything. "yeah brah its amazing, all these idiots posting about players that got us to the ECF.." yeah no team has ever made trades after they get eliminated from the ECF...
Fine by me...what I hope is that the Rangers then approach this draft by going for players with high boom potential. The depth of the organization is solid. I want more kids with Kreider-esqe potential. Gimme Jankowski in the 1st round, and Hart in the 2nd. I can wait.

Gordie Clark echoing what the organization will do.
These Ryan, Nash, Kane(s) proposals are pure fantasy.
They're not trading their 22 year old second line possible future first line center.
They're not trading a 21 year old 40 point defenseman.
They're not trading a 24 year old premiere shut down defenseman.
When is the last time they traded a 1st round pick? They're not. They're going to be able to draft a solid player with #28.
Jeff Gorton and Gordie Clark aren't idiots.
All Tortorella has talked about is ADDING to the depth of this team. Not subtracting from it by trading several roster players and prospects for one guy.
It doesn't matter what columnists write. They need to attract readers or they're out of a job.
The Rangers aren't doing anything stupid. They're not breaking up this core. They're going to look to add to it.
-Pick at #28 and #59
-Sign Schultz
-Sign Whitney 1-2 years
-Sign Stoll/Gaustad/Konopka or acquire another vet depth forward cheaply
-Sign Sarich/Jurcina or acquire another vet RHD cheaply
Don't expect more then something similar to that.

Its weird. We typically always agree going into the draft.
But i sort-of disagree this time.
I want Kerdiles. There's not a doubt in my mind this kid will be a heck of a player.
He plays balls to the wall. And gets gassed. Which then gets turned into claims of consistency issues. I don't buy it. He need better conditioning. Which he will get at Wisconsin.
He has high-end skill. Shot. Speed. And two-way play.
He's a full package.
But, and this is why i said "sort-of" before. If he's off the board, i would prefer a "boom" type of player like Jankowski. Because i don't see the high-end potential i see in Kerdiles in guys like Matteau and Wilson. Though, they can be good players. They don't have the same potential ceiling. Kerdiles is a future top six winger. Matteau and Wilson are not.
So if Kerdiles is off the board, i am in agreement with you again. Jankowski with #28. And McEachern with #59. Two possible huge upside players.
I HOPE They both stay with the NCAA route however.

The only player I've seen mentioned as being shopped is Dubi. Anisimov may be a possibility, but he's still pretty cheap and produces to his contract.
Hagelin, Stepan, Kreider, MDZ. None of those players are going anywhere.
I could see them dangling Del Zotto if they do sign Schultz, but I think they'll definitely wait awhile before doing that.
I like Del Zotto, when he's on his game he is very nearly a complete package defenseman. He'll play solid defense and can seriously make some fantastic plays offensively and through the neutral zone. He just needs consistency and it's too early to give up on him in that regard. But he has struggled to really QB the powerplay and if the Rangers felt they got someone who can do that and could improve their forward scoring by trading him, I could see him getting dangled
If not I think he hits 50 points next year which realistically is quite good for an offensive defenseman. I know Weber brings many other things to the table (including more goals), but offensively he's a 50ish point defenseman as well. If you can get that out of a guy who's solid defensively as well then you're doing pretty good.

This. I think people are getting confused because of all the redundant proposals. They are mistaking HF opinions for facts. Only Dubi has been rumored to being shopped. Some reporters have thrown out names other teams would like but nothing that says the rangeds have discussed them.
Rumor of Ott and Ribiero available. Also rumor of Dallas interested in Dubi. Perhaps add Boyle and its a good deal? I imagine they ask ofr Anisimov though.
Thinking Dallas and the Rangers may find a fit. Dallas needs to hit the cap floor so a few extra bucks in Dubi is not bad for them
I think we would love Ott way more than people love Avery. He can play 3rd line C or the wing........Ribiero can score pts and that was a pretty good 1-2 punch wiht Richards in Dallas, Steps to the Wing?

Not in favor of it. Would rather sign a good faceoff center than to give dallas boyle ir anisimov for average players imo.
