Steve Ott Might Be In Play

Never heard anyone else discussing this rumor, per Pierre LeBrun

Quote:
The Dallas Stars are getting calls from other teams on two players who garnered attention before the trade deadline: Steve Ott and Mike Ribeiro.
Quote:
If the Stars move one or both of these two players, itís with the big picture in mind, which is to get their core a bit younger and build the team around Jamie Benn and Loui Eriksson.
http://espn.go.com/blog/nhl/post/_/i...-in-bobby-ryan

He said on TSN, also, that it's not so much that they're being shopped as it is that teams who were interested at the deadline and rebuffed because Dallas was in a playoff spot are coming calling again and Dallas is willing to listen.

I didn't think Benn was that great as their #2C last season (primarily because he's god awful at faceoffs). I'd rather see him on the wing than promote him to #1C.

Canucks might have interest in both players. Everyone should know by now that Ott was pursued hard by the Canucks last year during the deadline. Ribeiro would come in handy during the time that Kesler rehabs from his surgery. However, no idea if Ribeiro and Kesler would mesh well together on the 2nd line afterwards, since one of them will have to shift to wing. Also, it is unlikely that the Canucks have the chips to pry both of these players from the Stars.

I am curious if this means the canucks are still after ott?

I would be curious to have Ribeiro, he's a guy who would help us immediately in the center area.

Sabres should definitely call about Ott. I've wanted him for a while. Stars fans generally agreed on a proposal of Adam + 2nd (BUF or CGY) for him. I'd still do that one.

Faceoffs aren't the only thing a center does, you know.

Sounds like that's what's gonna happen, though.

He's better at center IMO, though.

I'm aware of that, but you're still at a disadvantage if you're losing 54% of your draws.

I've always had a bit of a fantasy of having Ott on the Wild so we could have him and Clutter on the same line. That would be just insanity for opposing teams.

Ott - Brodziak - Clutterbuck

No way it happens though, from the games I've seen between the two teams, Ott and Clutterbuck don't exactly "get along" very well, hehe.

Would love to get both in Chicago. Would be willing to offer a strong Futures package if that would be enough on the Dallas end.

I wouldn't do it as a 'Nucks fan.

No disrespect to the Stars players and not saying that the Canucks duo are better, but these two works incredibly hard and are the type of players that I want to keep on the Canucks' roster long-term.

I'd be more interested in Ribeiro as a top 6 center alternative.

Adam+ 21 for Ribeiro.

I also wouldn't mind Ribeiro. However, what happens if we can't move Roy? That's the only problem I see with that. We'd have a bunch of 2nd line centers, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but we'd have to move salary out somehow and all of those centers just won't happen.

Like you were saying though, if we managed to move Roy, I'd probably do Adam + 1st (NSH) for Ribeiro. Then take one of Grigorenko/Faksa/Girgensons/Gaunce at #12.

I believe Dallas should trade both players IF they can get a top 6 centerman and something else.

Would love to see Ott on the Wings. Dallas fans what type of return would the Stars reasonably expect?

i could see the panthers trying to get ribeiro. we've needed a #1 center for years now, ever since jokinen left. he'd look great on the first, weiss on the 2nd, goc on the 3rd. over his last 6 years, which is his entire time w/ the stars, he's averaged 21.87G-50.51A-72.28PTS a season. a playmaker like him would look great w/ fleischmann and versteeg. wonder what it would take to get him. dont see tallon trading bjugstad or howden for him, obviously huberdeau is off limits. drew shore would be the most likely prospect to be going the other way. john mcfarland is a another possible. our 1st is probably in play. maybe a D like robak or petrovic. garrisons rights. santorelli. upshall. bradley. matthias. nothing over whelming but i have no idea what the asking price is on him. i'd start w/ shore and our 1st (23rd) and go from there.

I'm not sure if that's a bad deal or just one I don't want to see my team make. Either way I doubt we send a good prospect out with Ott.

I rather give up Howden than Shore.

Maybe throw Matthias in there too?
(waits on Dallas fans on this matter)

I would hope Burke would be in on this. Ribeiro would be a good fit for Kessel - good set up man for his and Lupul. Also, love Ott, and want him in Toronto. Had the good luck of watching his entire junior career in his hometown (well he is a county kid at least, not from the city of Windsor). He would bring so much to the Leafs - and I think they were showing interest at the deadline too.

Could a deal be worked around something like this:
to Tor - Ott, Ribiero, 13th overall
to Dal - 5th overall, Franson, Bozak (or Kadri), Armstrong/Komisarek/Connolly (got to take some salary back)
