Honestly I think saying one is more valuable is irrelevant. They're both loaded with the potential to be stars and are both untouchable.

I'm talking in terms of trade value. No player is untouchable. Ask Richards and Carter.

Richards and Carter were very good players who had crossed the potential threshold, so basically they are what they are. Whereas a guy like Giroux has crossed the potential threshold as a legit superstar, so he's untouchable.

Schenn and Couturier are young kids with tons of potential. Generally those types don't get traded at 19 or 20 years old. So in 2 or 3 years Schenn and Couturier will cross their potential threshold and they'll either fall in the Carter and Richards category, and be good players who could be moved if the right deal comes along. Or they'll hit the Giroux superstar category and be untouchable. But as of now they're untouchable based on potential, unless some team wants to offer an already established superstar for them.

I could see Schenn/Couts get traded in a package for a legitimate superstar/really, really good player (Weber) but not for Yandle, Ryan or Nash (mostly 'cause of Nash's contract). Not saying Yandle/Ryan aren't really, really good but it would have to be someone like Weber, Karlsson or pretty much any unobtainable star around the league. Richards/Carter were our unobtainable 'stars'. Carter not so much, but he is probably a top-10 goal scorer in the league when 100% healthy (Cup Finals much?) and Richards is perennial top-10 Selke candidate when on his game - which is often.

If the right deal comes to a Gm they will take it. Otherwise Wayne Gretzky should've retired a Oiler. Schenn got traded when he was 19...

Erm, that was not a "hockey trade." Bad example. Sather did not even arrange the deal, rather it was the Oilers insolvent owner who shipped off Gretzky for cash.

If we're trading with the 'Yotes, I want Sean Burke included in that deal.

Hoping this isn't the case, but could be quiet day on trade front. Not many top end guys avail and too many teams involved. ‪#TSN‬

To coach or to play?

I wouldn't. I'd rather throw far too much money at Suter than throw away that much for Yandle.

Its not really that much. MAB is a bottom pairing, dime-a-dozen defenseman. Cousins, from what I understand is projected to be a third liner. JvR could turn out to be special, or could just as likely stay what he is now and nothing more. The first (presumably a defenseman) would most likely have a ceiling of what Yandle already is and may never reach that potential. To me it looks like the only risk in that trade is JvR, which is no big deal considering the other scoring this team has and the fact that this team has shown JvR is not needed to win games (obviously his presence doesn't hurt, but they had no problem scoring and winning without him). When you consider the needs of this team, getting Yandle at that price wouldn't be a bad deal at all. It certainly isn't a steal, but Yandle would be a very nice top pairing guy to have on this team, which is really what this team needs.

Not to make it out like he's untouchable but I'm surprised how many people are throwing Matt Read into deals. I realize he's 25, but he's on a 900k cap hit for 2 more years where he'll likely score 20 goals, play multiple positions, and kill penalties.

Yeah it's a bit odd from my standpoint as well....can't get better value but then again that's why he can be a valuable chip to acquire for other teams I suppose ....I guess that is the point.

When the alternative is Schenn, I have no issue including Read--that's why.

No one is eager to dump him by any stretch, but among our "second-tier" assets--e.g., not Voracek, JVR, Schenn, or Couturier--he's easily the most valuable. Given our thin pool of NHL-ready prospects, his inclusion is probably required with one of the other four to get a star-caliber player.

I agree with this ! Read scores big goals, has great speed, and is pretty damn good in shootouts ! He is a real bargain in my book.

I don't know what it is about Read, but he doesn't fill me with confidence to have another season like he just did.

I have the same sense but I just think it is maybe bc he is not a flashy personality. Dont know what it is but it is subjective. We will see....

Did Timmy P. report JVR + Schenn / Couturier for Yandle?

To arms!

(I don't have CSN-Philly...so if I have been misinformed, feel free to tell me to calm down...)

Where in the world are you getting that from?

He said that Ryan would cost that. Said that talks are ongoing with Yandle

If he makes that trade then is he stupid.

Yandle doesn't even kill penalties...

That's what Anaheim wants for Ryan.

I hope he tells them to go pound sand.
