Here's one of probably 1,000,000 sites that mentioned the rumor.

http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/sjs120423.html

It has been out there since the deadline that Pavelski was a piece that SJ was offering or willing to offer and what we have heard has stopped a deal is Howson insisting on Couture.

My guess is with the rumored acquisition of Bobrovsky, the Front Office has determined that they are going to rebuild and Nash will be an Ottawa Senator by the time the draft starts.

There's no way this is the biggest move for a goaltender we make.... at least it better not be, Bob is a good backup, but hopefully this means the "Maseiah" has played his last shot in a CBJ uni.

Since it doesn't appear the Sens' first has been in discussion (which I find hard to believe Howson hasn't asked, but whatever) I'd guess they're looking at another roster player, to help balance the money. Problem is, OTT needs to balance out the money beyond this coming year, and Spezza, Karlsson and Michalek I think are the only players (and Chris Phillips) signed beyond 12-13. Maybe Howson thinks he can get MM thrown in? I doubt it.

I fail to see how Nick is better than Umberger. I don't catch very many Ottawa games. But just looking at the stats, he had a career year this year with 47 points, and has never scored more than 17 goals. Is there something I'm missing?

Alright, get out your salt-lick sized grain of salt...

Eklund says San Jose is alone in the Nash bidding at present.

How about finishing this one up, Howson, and bringing us the Big Pavelski?

Do the Flyers want the number 6 to pick themselves or as a sweetener for Nash?

JVR + Read + 6th Overall for Nash?

Pavelski, Niemi and a first and I would put a nice ribbon on the precedings so far today.... Howson then just has to impress at the draft....

As for Rick Nash trade? Howson said no offers are close. "They have a ways to go yet."

I'll give Howson credit for this: He's not being bullied into making a bad deal. But he has to play the line right here. He cannot piss of Nash's agent again and have his legs swept out from under him.

You need to play the line of tough guy and reasonable guy pretty tight. Hopefully he can do that.

Hey folks - just wanted to chime in here with some thoughts on Nash, and relate it to Heatley-Sens a few years back.

I think what Nash is doing in Columbus is silly. Remember one thing though. The best thing about getting rid of a player like Nash, is not only the pieces you get back, but the cap room you have to manuver other potential assets.

We lost Heatley is a terrible way, but the deal wasn't just to SJ for Michalek and others...it was for the cap room of 7 million to purchase whoever we wanted. The fact that you may be taking on little salary back in a deal can't be overlooked.

Get Nash out of town (and personally I'm not a fan of bringing him to Ottawa), and enjoy the cap freedom you have, along with the assets you receive.

I'm at the point where I just want Nash's ridiculous contract off the books.

His 30 goals will only hurt the rebuild too.

I gotta ask what CBus fans think of this decision by Howson?

You gotta beleive his value goes down as we get closer to free agency and will definitely go down after the cap commitments that occur following July 1. Ottawa may become the only team that can take him after that if Philly and NYR are cap teams and CBUS dont want to take a bad contract back.

I'd be frustrated just like I was frustrated with Heatley. But atleast we knew what was happening with Heatley, Murray traded him to Edmonton and got rid of all this nonsense and he declined, we arent even seeing that here. Howson is the one that seems like cannot accept any offer because its not good enough for Nash.

I honestly beleive this is gonna come back to haunt him.

It certainly could. Again, the Jagr trade comes to mind...

Wilson in SJ has hoodwinked every GM when acquiring a superstar. Thornton, Heatley, Havlat.

He's gonna through some spare parts together mix it with a 2nd round pick and get his man leaving a fanbase wonder wth happened.

Dont trade him to Ottawa, I personally dont want Nash for the price mentioned above because I like my team, but if your GM is talking to SJ I'd be worried...

Yeah, except, at the end of the day, he had Thornton, Heatley and Havlat on the team and they weren't any better for it. Michalek was a better player than Heatley last year. It may not have happened overnight, but you ended up with the better end of the deal. Havlat had another one of his injury shortened seasons. And, Thornton is still a soul-less SOB.

I don't hate Nash, but it'll be the same story with him. Wilson will get his man and the Sharks will still exit in the early rounds because Nash is not going to be the guy. Just isn't who he is and I'm not convinced the cast surrounding him will make up for that.

I'll be happy with Pavelski plus. Hopefully our GM can close that kind of a deal and sooner than later. The one thing in our favor with the Sharks--they won't be getting Bobby Ryan from Anaheim.

I've gotten to the point today that I'm almost afraid to invest the time in watching the draft for fear of the absolute trainwreck Howson might turn this into. I hope that I'm dead wrong, but let's just say that today's events have not raised my spirits. PROVE ME WRONG SCOTT! He needs to keep telling himself...BIG BOY PANTS, BIG BOY PANTS.

I can't wait to see the possibility of Columbus passing on Yakupov at #2 if he's there.
