No issue with Regier not wanting to trade down. If he's working on moving up at all, he'd be weakening his opening position. And, who knows what player would be available at 21 when things shake out.

NHL network had their mock just on now... Sabres picked Ceci at 12, and Gaunce at 21.

Interesting notes:

Grigerenko went at 17 to San Jose... I want him at 12 if he falls I dont care about what anyone else says

We took Gaunce over Jankowski, and Hertl. I would take Gaunce at 21, seems like he would be a solid value pick there.

Wilson went at 15 to Ottawa

Kevin Snow interview with Darcy Regier

Right at the beginning: "looking more like we'll use the four picks rather than trading for a player".
I'm fine with that.

Not related to us, but there's some speculation going around that Edmonton may have decided to take Ryan Murray.
It's helped on by Murray's brother tweeting this:

Murzzy18 not that i know for absolute sure but its looking pretty good that we could be making some alberta trips in the near future. #JustSayin

I think it's a good idea, but I haven't ever been that high on Yak.

Got to Pittsburgh at 1130. NHL.com twitter account took a picture of all 4 of us with our Sabres jerseys. They said it would be on within the next few hours.

It's interesting to see Bob go for a 2nd and 2 4ths (one next year), given what Varlamov went for last year. Both had starting experience.

I think I'm okay with it if teams are over-valuing their players.

That said, i'd like him to move out an additional member of the Rochester core, even if it's not for an established player.

To get a better idea of who could come off the board before our pick at twelve, here's a roundup of draft previews for the teams immediately ahead of us:

TSN's rankings are usually pretty close to what happens and they have Faksa at 11, Grigorenko at 12, and Girgensons at 13.

if the Sabres take one of those three at 12.

I was watching NHL on TSN last night and what I got from Tambellini is that they were taking Murray. He said he wasn't just looking at skill but leadership as well (Murray has been a captain on just about every team he's ever played on) and he also said that team need plays a factor into their decision.

Watch Howson get Howson'd and trade #2 to Calgary for #14 and JayBo.

This is a few days old, but didn't see a thread about it:

Sabres attempting to acquire Bobby Ryan.

Quote:
According to Elliotte Friedman of CBC, the Sabres are trying to acquire the 25-year old winger. Now, as Dave Davis pointed out, “attempting to acquire” and “about to acquire” are two completely different things. Sabres fans need to remember that, and not get too carried away this time around.

Would you put next year's first in play to get a deal done to get into the top 5?

Depends for who.

For Forsberg or Galchenyuk, I wouldn't hesitate.

If that's true that Edmonton is picking Murray, there's a great chance that Yakupov (Montreal) and Galchenyuk (Toronto) could be in our division next season. Wonderful. Maybe the Islanders should be the target.

I wouldn't hesitate if it means the Sabres can get an impact center.

I could see it happening, but personally, I think no phallic mascot going Calgary's way would be the deal breaker.

The Jackets organization seriously has to be one of the worst in professional sports.
They do nearly everything wrong.

Absolutely not.
While players in the top five this year are intriguing, it's possible that there will be an even greater amount of intriguing players next year that will also be NHL ready.

Only for Gally or Yakupov.

But I don't think Yakupov would pan out here.

Don't know enough about next year's class. Is it loaded or sparce?

I expect a stronger finish (better than 12/13) next year from the Sabres so their #1 pick should be lower in the draft order. If next year's class is only average, I'd offer it up.

Sorry I should be better informed about 2013 prospects.

I mean, if Lindy gets canned...

Also 13 is loaded. I'd rather not unless it means one of those two.
