I like Murray, but not at #1. If we're picking first, I want Yak.

The more I see Nail, the more I like him. He is hilarious in the pre-draft baseball video on the Oilers site.

You just know that between his skill level and personality Oilers fans and Edmonton would grow to love this kid.

His birthday put him less than 2 weeks away from qualifying him for the 2011 draft. His entire draft year he was essentially an 18 yr old already.

Let's tone it down with the gifs all. A picture with no words can be considered spam.

It's not even 1pm and I'm ready to blow a ****ing gasket.

Murray is not worthy of the first overall pick. Not even ****ing close. A boring, stay at home, good first pass defenseman does not warrant first overall. Not by a long shot. I like the kid, I do, but this would be a big mistake.

We shall see.

Despite my not seeing much of both players I think Button might be right about comparing Murray to Klefbom.

Exciting times.

Some longer term considerations...

When I look ahead to continued (re) building this team into a contender, and assuming that no slam-dunk trades re-balance things, Murray makes sense as a stabilizing, solid, safe character pick.

In 3 years, a D corps of Smid, Schultz, Petry, Murray, Klefbom, Marincin +/- J Schultz, Gernat, Plante, Teubert etc. etc. would be light on offense but v. solid defensively and for puck posession.

Oilers offense will grow organically as the young 4 develop and others contribute / come in.

Drafting a D does send an interesting signal to the team, also - that management has confidence in the forwards and the core being developed.

Yakupov is great, entertaining - he'll score lots and have You Tube celli's - but 'Ovi-lite' is a potential problem if the goal is to win a Stanley Cup.

OK I've rationalized enough - time to find some draught for the draft!!!!

How do you know? The whole year, I feared that Murray was the stereotypical Lowe pick And I reckon it will probably happen

We've known Griffin Reinhart is guy Oilers really like. Word now that EDM may trade down, don't want pressure of him being No. 1.

Heard originally Reinhart Oil's 2nd choice. Could be become first choice? There's some drama here now.

Mark Spector and Gary Lawless (from Winnipeg) saying Edmonton is trying to move down to take Reinhart...still disappointed, I want Yakupov. 86 percent of the fans do. ITS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!

Just a hunch. They've never let speculation about one player get as rampant as they have now. It only makes sense that this might be a total smokescreen.

What blows my mind is that Stu called him a likely number two or number three d-man. How can they possibly justify taking a ****ing second pairing defenceman first overall? Honestly, I'd take Galchenyuk, Grigorenko, Forsberg, even Tervainen before Murray.

Again, for those who missed it, Stu thinks Yakupov compares to Valeri Kharlamov, Kharlamov is amazing (from all acounts) here's some vids.

The thing I like about Yakupovs confidence and seemingly unflappable nature in the light of the press and media is that he will be a great fit for our fishbowl environment in Edmonton. I think he will be less subjected and less effected by the constant banter and still remain more focused on himself, his team and just purely hockey like he suggests in his interviews when asked about the draft race.

the ONLY thing that makes me still believe they'll do the right thing is their draft history. They've taken who they believe is BPA the last two years, so I have no reason to believe that will change...

...however the pro-murray frenzy is building to the point that it's damn near impossible to ignore.
