Agreed. I think may people discount how valuable a mentor Luongo was to Schneider in Vancouver. Markstrom is a few years away by all acounts.

You misunderstood me. I mean that we most likely aren't getting the pick and something. Luongo isn't going for nothing eithor. You have to realize that LACK is useless to us and we need pieces that will improve our team, not just increase our cap

Hard to be sarcastic on the internet

Why is it 'luo' in the title?

It's one of my biggest pet peeves.

It's LU not LU-O...nobody chants 'LUUUUUUU-O, it's just LU.

Lu-on-go. Makes sense to me.

Well, what I said was that trading him would be more difficult at that point. I didn't address waiver or buyout, as I'm of the unpopular opinion that the language in the SPC which states all contracts will comply with the new CBA means Lu's will, too (especially as to procedural matters, which wouldn't have anything to do with the present grandfathering, anyway), so I'm not thinking waiver possibilities until we know what the rules will be on that process. I respect your opinion if you disagree and think it would be easy to trade him then, but at that point he would be... 37 or 38 and I think that, coupled with his contract, would make a trade harder to accomplish.

God, that is just an awful proposal. If Vancouver trades him for value close to that I'll laugh for hours.

Macarthur, Lombardi and Colborne for Luongo?

Too much salary going that way?

I just listened to the McGuire interview on 1040 that just happened; Pierre said that he was flying on the plane from Vegas to Pittsburgh and he was beside/near Burkie and that Burke spent a large amount of time speaking to Mike Gillis.

He also said that Gillis and Burke had dinner together one of the last two nights.

Fuel to the fire...

Not gonna lie, this argument might end up being more productive than any trade talks that have gone on here lol.

Too much salary and not enough value. You could increase the salary coming back if we got more value too, by the way.

And what do the Panthers do with Luongo when Markstrom is ready?
If the market for Lu is cool now, how will it be in 2 or 3 years when he is older?

Value-vise: Is it because Lombardi has negative value? If it is that way, then how about just Mac +Colborne?

It finally dawned on me that if Lu is traded to the Leafs then Luuuuu chants will echo through the rafters of ACC from here on out

End of an era if the trade goes down. Canuck fans won't realize what they've lost in Roberto until he's gone I wouldn't imagine

Sounds more like they are dating instead of trying to manufacture a deal.

Sources say that it was a very nice dinner. Might of been steak but that is still unconfirmed, more to come when I catch wind of it.

Fiirst off. Markstrom as far as I know has played zero NHL games. I may be wrong on that but I did read that he will spend next year in the NHL. Best case scenario is that he is a legitimate starter in 3 years and you can go half and half with Luongo or deal with the problem of two good goalies then much like Vancouver is now. Worst case scenario is that Markstron doesn't pan out and you have a great goalie for the next 6 years.
Sure there are risks. But they seem pretty manageable.

Yeah, scrap Macarthur and put in Ashton/2nd 2012/1st 2013. Ideally two of those, but I wouldn't be upset if we only got one.

Fair enough.

As for trading him, I think the current Thomas situation shows why trading Luongo (who will be the same age as Thomas is now) won't be that difficult.

Thomas has lifted his NTC so that the Bruins can move him - thus allowing some cap floor team to add to their cap hit (probably the Islanders). Luongo could do the same thing.

Furthermore built in to Roberto's contract is a team option to trade him in 5 years. Not much of an issue really.

Who picked up the cheque? That may be a clue to who won the deal.

Whatever it was on the menu for that meal I suspect it did nothing to alleviate the blood pressure of either GM
