Interesting, given that Arniel was mentioned as a possible Assistant Coach candidate in San Jose.

I think Arniel wants his own bench, I'm thrilled I like him as a coach for the Canucks prospects.

I agree. Some of our prospects took their games to a new level under him before. He is welcome back with open arms.

Yeah, it's kind of an advantage having a guy like him who knows the system and some of the prospects. A few guys on the big club played under him as well, so it offers some continuity to the system. I'd be pleased with this.

Indeed. I hope Arniel determines he is not an NHL coach and coaches our farm for a long time.

Get this done, MG!

Still think Arniel is a good coach that got put in a miserable situation in Columbus.

Yup. Mac-T did a pretty good job imo, but there is a real synergy with our affiliate and Scott Arniel. Hopefully now he knows his place and stays with the club forever.

Somewhat related;

Hearing the Wolves are leaning toward not renewing their relationship with the Canucks after this year. Nothing is official however.

Interesting. Wonder what the Canucks would do for an affiliate in that case? Any AHL teams coming to the end of their agreement with parent clubs that are closer to home for Vancouver?

that's really strange considering the effort vancouver goes to try to make their farm teams competitive

When does the Calgary-Abbotsford partnership end?

The only thing significantly closer would be Abbotsford, but that's a horrible location when looking at the location of all other AHL teams.

A shame if Chicago chooses to cut ties. Would be better if the Canucks could get a long lasting relationship with an affiliate club.

That was my first thought as well. Having the Canucks' affiliate in Abbotsford would make that team a hot ticket pretty damn quick.

The agreement was for quite a few years IIRC. Looking for the article.

Yeah, I was thinking that too. The city wouldn't have to bail the Heat out anymore if the Canucks became the affiliate.

Sounds good to me. Had no major qualms with the job Arniel did before with the Moose.

I was under the impression that the Flames organization actually owned the Heat. Has that changed? Or was never the case?

No, that's right, the Flames own them outright. There's no agreement to end.

Good. Always liked him as a coach in Manitoba... Got a ****** deal in Columbus.

At the very least he's a good AHL coach and would make a good assistant one day.

Glad its finally confirmed. A no brainer given the situation and history.

Looking forward to see what magic he can do this season.

Debatable. MacT has had more success but with a better team.
