Would you guys do Subban for Yakupov + Galchenyuk (meaning we keep the 3rd overall and get the 1st overall)? I wouldn't but I just want to hear your opinions.
no way . and if you trade pk it will probably effect Price contract and be the difference between him wanting to sign short or long term

I didn't say that's the smart thing to do, but that's the only scenario that I could see happening and I hope it doesn't happen.
I wasn't judging. I meant that the only way there is merit in trading Subban for the 1st overall pick is if we plan to do a complete rebuild, in which case we should trade all of our veterans for draft picks and young players as well.

Hope this true, but I don't think the member of habs org would have say : Yeah, were quietly shopping him!
Bergy must feel he has enough "D" coming up that can take Subby's spot and he is probably trying to land Yaky and Galy.
That is the only thing that would make sense....any other scenario just doesn't compute. This is the only reason he would trade Subby. I would also bet that the leak Kipper has is in Edmonton and not Mtl. Then again perhaps it was purposely leaked to see what other teams may offer? If so that is just brilliant and a change from the Goat era.
Instead of doing taht, I'd keep Subban and use assets(2nds and other assets) to move up 15th to 20 and get another skill forward...Grigensons Faksa or even Grigorenko. Or stay at 33 and take Jankowski.

Well that would make a lot more sense already.
But nope I wouldn't.
Subban is a stud. Last player who impressed me that much at a young age for the habs is Koivu. I'd say Markov but he was a bit older.
I don't know if he's a headcase but from listening to interviews he sounds like a smart man with good values. Maybe he's smart enough that it's his media face and he acts totally different in the room but that only means we need to work on him with character guys in the management and in the room. He has as much potential as anyone and we need to harness it. I don't think he's worth as much as his real actual on ice value so we should hold on to him.

As opposed to say Forsberg + Subban ? IMO Yakupov + Galchenyuk doesn't compare.
Just remember , when a Gereral plans an attack he always uses a BIG diversion to hide his real intention. If MB is indeed floating this then you can bet That is NOT the real deal he has in mind.
All I know is I can't wait for the draft!!!!!!! I'm just on my way to go pick up a bottle of Gibsons and some popcorn
The importance of this draft is the biggest thing that has happened since the last cup win in 93. This pick has to set them up for the next 10-15 years. Yes it is that big of a pick and there is a lot of pressure to make the right choice.

I hope you are right...but I think at this point the habs are in a pretty good position. Might be best to play it patiently and make moves gradually rather than overpaying right now to make a "splash". Often times the "splash" type moves backfire.

Not really.
However, I doubt he's going to trade Subban just to trade him. If the pens come offering Malkin for him, you can bet your house Subban is gone.

if I was to hazard a wild guess, I might even think that MG has determined that Markov has had his days ( remember his knees) and trade him now for something great.

Even if they want to move Markov, they won't get much in return. He is worth 4 or 5x what they can probably get f he is healthy in October.
