I think close to half of that list would be just fine in a backup role. They know they would be a backup and would pretty much all be cheap.

The board doesn't automatically revolt at all 35+. It depends on the situation. Many of the situations aren't good. For instance, Hedberg for two years...I don't think that would be good. I'd consider him a 1 year guy.
How was signing a 7th dman for 2 yrs at $750K a bad sigining. Lilja wasn't great but filled the role like you would want your 7th to do without causing stink when he was a scratch. CHI had to pay $1M for OD last season. Who were you going to sign this season to be the #7 for $750K?

Even Hedberg at 2 yrs (depending on the money) wouldn't be bad. He is only going to play 20 games behind Bryz which is what he has done most of his career. It also gives Hoivonen (?) time to adjust to the NA rinks.

Came to post this. The possibility intrigues me. There has to be something that he can teach Bryz, eh?

Wasn't Hasek not very technically sound? Just really REALLY agile and acrobatic and fast.

He was the most flexible goaltender of all time and made absurd saves because of it, but he isn't exactly unsound technically... it's just not what his reputation was based on.

He's still putting up good numbers at 46. That tells you all you need to know.

He's a fine back-up option for a year while Hovinen gets acclimated.

I'll take Biron for $800k a year for one year with a second year option.

Always liked him.

Martin Biron for me. He was here previously and the guys in the locker room really liked him. I can see Briere making a push for Biron to come back.

I'd love to have Marty B back. He's a more than serviceable backup and a likeable guy.

That being said, my first choice is Hasek. He was my favorite player as a kid.

Biron wouldn't be too bad, and it'd be nice given the history.

However, if Montoya is available for cheap he's a good option. He's not spectacular, but he's put up serviceable numbers for the past two years in NY.

Biron sucks. Ask NY.

Boosh is the obvious back up choice, AS LONG as he is limited to purely that roll.

Any chance they sit Bryz next year....no Boosh.

I hope it's Biron. Can you imagine the locker room with Bryz and Biron as the 2 goalies together? The sound bytes would be endless and amazing.

I could see Biron coming in for a year (maybe two at the outside). But wasn't there discussion in the New York media of Marty close to accepting a deal with the Rangers?
