We still needs some addition - winger, probably center, at least one good dman.

As of right now, we're a better team on the ice. Jordan is an upgrade over Sutter, but it still stings to lose Brandon. It's gambling the future I'm more concerned about.

The fact Forsberg was available makes this hurt a bit, but esentially we traded for Staal for Sutter and one of our thousand defensive prospects (not named Faulk or McBain)

Id take this any day of the week, we now have 2 all star, cup winning centres and just need a winger now. Hello Alex Semin

So glad to be a Hurricanes fan ATM.

Rutherford calls it a fair hockey deal.

If you take a step back and look at it, the deal is essentially Sutter-for-Staal straight up. Dumoulin will be replaced by the next U.S.-born, college-bound defenseman that Rutherford drafts in the second round. Pouliot doesn't hurt nearly as much as one of the forwards being picked would have at #8. It actually could have been MUCH worse.

Staal for Sutter only adds $2 million to our cap hit. We've still got work to do to get to the floor.

While it's almost certain that Staal signs a new deal in the next couple months, it's fun to think about the potential nightmare scenario: JR waits until next spring to negotiate, things fall to pieces in the dressing room during the season, Staal walks in July 2013.

Sounds like Sutter was the dealbreaker, but I sure hope we made the right call on Dumoulin versus alternatives. Sutter, Dumo and 2nd might have made sense, or Sutter, #8 pick and someone else...but I guess that was the price. Hope it is worth it.

I'm glad that we have Jordan now, I just wasn't expecting to give up such a package. But the more I think about it, the more I'm fine with the deal. Dumoulin was the one I was most disappointed about leaving because I think he's going to be a great top 4 d-man eventually

Sign Kostytsin (that's a bold prediction), sign Suter, make some trades .

My guess is the only alternatives were Faulk and Murphy, so Dumoulin is the easy choice there.

I know it's tough, but we have to accept the fact that Jordan or anybody else wasn't coming here for a package entirely of futures. We kept Faulk and Murphy, which is the backbone of our defensive rebuild. We have a glut of defenders that should pan out.

Bottom line, Brandon Sutter is a 40 point defensive dynamo. He's a gamer. He's a great player. However, he's not Jordan Staal. We can't have it both ways. If he can play here as a second line center or even a first line center, we have made a positive move. The fact that he's still young means a lot of upside still there too.

That was a lot to give up, considering JR held all the cards, but at the end of the day, Carolina ends up with the best player in the deal. Obviously there is no way to predict 100%, but I can't see any one of Sutter, Dumoulin, or Pouliot having a higher ceiling than J. Staal.

Just popping in to say that you'll love Jordan. Great player who never gives up and has a great forecheck. All the best to you Jordan.

Rutherford better try and lock up both Staal and Skinner to extensions this offseason rather than waiting until next.

In the end, Doumilin, Sutter, and an 8th are all question marks to ever be more than they are right now.

My gut tells me Dumoulin is going to be special, maybe more than those two. But I've been wrong before.

This, and we kept McBain who could be possibly dealt for another forward.

In the end Murphy and Faulk are special kid, so i have no problem with part a ways with Dumoulin. We can sign every offseason player like him, even with more expierence.

I'm ok with losing Sutter (who was my favorite current Cane) and the #8. Not sure about Dumo. I thought he'd be a mainstay on our blueline for years to come so this seemed like a bit much to me. Oh well.

Maybe this means Marc Staal will come here when he's a ufa.

Treat Jordan right guys!

We'll miss him in Pittsburgh but...this really gives him a chance to grow. Hopefully the Staal brothers duo turns into the next Sedins duo.

We're gonna have to cut some dead weight. Nodl, Dwyer, Brent, Stewart.. There's not room for all four, especially if we plan to add another fourth line grinder.

JR says he's going to start negotiating with Staal in July.

Agree with a lot of you that it kinda hurts losing Dumoulin. But the more that I've had time to think about it, I think I like the deal. Still need to sign a winger and/or d though.

Jordan is criminally underrated on HF, you guys will love him. Watch him in person on a regular basis, he is all over the ice. Its crazy how much his career is mirroring Keith Primeau's. Not only are their game's remarkably similar on the ice, but both started their careers behind two big centres (Yzerman and Fedorov), only to get traded to the canes/whalers and see their career take the next step.
