In the draft (except possibly the shot, might just be amongst defensemen there).

Defense can be taught, shooting and mean streaks can't.

Those who did not like this pick, think about this:

Before heading into the draft, the Wild needed a defenseman, needed physicality, need a PP quaterback, need a goal scorer.

Dumba is arguably one of the best d-men in the draft, arguably one of the most physical, arguably one of the best offensive defenseman who can runs the PP, and arguably one of the best shooters.

He meets every single one of our needs

For those saying move down; who is to say that Minnesota had this guy rated number 1 on their boards and moving down would completely negate that? If you have a guy slated number 1, and he's there, why would you move down?

Plus, the Wild can reach out to a more diverse crowd, now.

Was there a specific reason for Dumba to be there last year?

Found what looks like a pretty good scouting report from a guy that has seen Dumba play quite a bit. Long report so I'll just post link below. While I leaned toward Trouba, glad we got a similar style player in Matt.

This is gunna sound stupid, but I'm not sure if you're serious. TSN said he's bigger then he's listed, sounds like a determined kid.

He's also a Wild guy in line with their other D picks - skates well, great work ethic, hard as hell to play against and moves the puck well.

Only worry is how his game and size translate to the NHL level but in Chuck I trust.

I made an account...

just to let the minority saying we screwed up picking Dumba that we made the best pick we could have. Dumba went in 80% of all the mocks in the top 5 and has been praised for his compete combined with good D, and a GREAT offensive upside. There is no way this is a bad pick. You may like, not love the pick, but I would question your sanity if you hated the pick.

thank you good sir. I am very happy with our pick, Dumba is absolutely excited to be picked by our org. and we definitely stole Dumba from ANA. Would not have cared if we picked him or Forsberg, but we need D and are in a position in our pool to make a D minded decision.

He's a right handed shot. Does anyone think that's good for a defenseman?

I'm cool with it. He was one of the 4 or 5 guys I was "hoping" for.

Well, both Scandella and Brodin are lefthanded so Dumba being righthanded works

Can't remember if left or right hand is more important in the NHL and harder to find

BTW; we have lacked Flahr. We've picked guys that are reserve and mellow, so awesome pick here!
