Keith Yandle on the block

Via Kukla's/LeBrun:

Quote:
Keith Yandle’s name was hot on the trade rumor mill Friday.

“He’s definitely in play,” a rival GM told ESPN.com Friday.

A Phoenix Coyotes source downplayed the rumors, saying only that teams were calling on the star defenseman, not the other way around.

Yandle has four more years left on his deal, which carries a $5.25 million cap hit.

The Coyotes would be looking for a center in any deal they made involving Yandle, another source indicated.

A lot of teams would have interest in Yandle, and the New York Rangers are one of them. He’d be the power-play quarterback they’ve been looking for, no question.

The St. Louis Blues are in the market for a top-four, left-handed defenseman, so Yandle would certainly fill the bill as well.
It says they're interested in a center. Filppula for Yandle? I'd think about it.

I'd do it in a heartbeat. You can always find another C/LW (Nyquist), but Top-D are harder to find.

That's a tough one. I really like Filppula, but Yandle would be so excellent for us. He would certainly go a long to way in filling Lidstrom's role. In the end, I would take the deal, but for some reason, I think we'd have to throw in an average prospect or draft pick with the deal.

You may think about it, but Phoenix probably wouldn't.

So they are dead set on a center? How about Franzen and a center prospect?

Yep I would LOVE to get Yandle he is arguable the top offensive defenceman in the game but the price would be outrageous. I think it would take Filppula+Nyquist to get them to consider it and our offer could be beaten by many different teams.

I'd do Filppula & Kindl + a conditional pick next year (based on Yandle's or the teams performance).

Filppula + any prospect not named Smith, Nyquist or Jarnkrok. Anyone else is expendable when talking about Keith Yandle.

Yandle is the real deal and we could still afford Suter and Parise. If Filppula is the centerpiece

How about Filppula + Jurco? Maybe a late draft pick coming back? I like that deal.

Look at what Jordan Staal just netted, and he is not signed. Yandle is more valuable than Staal in my opinion. He is a true #1 defenseman. He would be perfect to nab.

Ken Holland plays it too safe to make a deal like this.

But a Flip + Kindl would be a perfect start.

Do you guys think this trade is feasible?

Keith Yandle

Valtteri Filppula
Jakub Kindl
Xavier Ouellet

I think it might take more than that since Filppula isn't a proven scoring center and Kindl has little value.

It would depend what Phoenix is looking for in return besides a quality center.

Pitt did have their hands tied though, Staal was going to sign next year for the Canes anyways so Pitt was able to make Carolina feel uncomfortable and get him early anyways. If Staal was not headed directly toward Carolina in one years time he would have gone for much more, probably more than Yandle.

and a high pick as well. They are probably looking for a good d coming back that can perform now.

I'd put Smith in a deal if that is what it took.

Yandle is a bonafide forward NOW. Smith has promise, but we don't know if he will be able to play at Yandle's level in his career.

Yeah, I think our greatest hopes are that Smith turns into Yandle. When you consider that, and the fact that Yandle is only 25 and on a long contract, you pull the trigger with Smith in the deal all day long.

I think we would be lucky is Smith turned into a player as good as Yandle. That being said, doesn't he have a higher ceiling? (higher than where Yandle is now)

I'd still throw him in a trade for Yandle, assuming we miss out on Suter etc.

I'll never understand why people think other teams will give up superstar players for whatever crap their team is looking to dump off...

Kindl, Sheahan, Emmerton, Mursak, even Franzen - these guys have very, very little trade value. Maybe they get a late pick for them. Not a #1 defenseman.

Yes, a 30 goal scorer has very little value. Makes sense.

I think Flip + Pulkkinen + Kindl + conditional pick based on our/Yandle's success next year would get it done.
