I agree with the general sentiment that this is a positive, but he was good enough at what he did not to deprive us of the Cup. Maybe he even deserves a little credit. (Our PP in the Finals wasn't too bad, right?)
In any event, he was a good guy. I wish him well.
NJ's PK in the playoffs was dreadful. The kings came into the series under 9% and had a 30% PP versus NJ. Don't think the PP was fixed, they just ran into the worst PK.
Sutter initially wanted to replace his assistant(s) and then neither was fired.
A Kings source has confirmed an initial L.A. Times report that assistant coach Jamie Kompon will not return to the staff next season, per the choice of the team. Further, John Stevens and Bill Ranford are expected to return. It’s not yet known who Darryl Sutter might choose to fill the position. Bernie Nicholls, who spent half of last season with the team and served as a “consultant,” is not believed to be interested in a full-time coaching role (or at least wasn’t, as of a couple months ago).
Interesting side note is that it would seem Kompon was working under a shorter contract than the rest of the staff. Kings management and other coaches (other than Sutter) are under contract through 2013.
I didn't like Stevens as the head coach in Philly but I'm glad he's staying on. He and Sutter must be on the same page considering Sutter could have brought in whoever he wanted.

Stevens has done a wonderful job with the Kings D corps
This is second to winning the Stanley Cup. Greatest news possible right now. It's about time. This guy have 50000 lives and just kept surviving coach after coach... Thank the hockey gods we can finally get rid of this guy!

I'm sure this will get deleted but that is just asinine.
Pfft. Don't count me as petty enough to delete that comment I use asinine a lot myself. One of my favorite words to rebuttal with.
But I am an avid patron of the anti-Kompon camp. I've dislike him for years. This news is fantastic. Kompon has been a weed that has outlasted everyone on the staff. Enduring his powerplay for 6 years was pure torture. I am just pleased that we finally have a chance to get a new person in that can revitalize the offense.
