That's what I was thinking, so I guess we could still add a pick. And I think as long as they get a 1st coming back in their goalie trade, they'll be fine with it.

Yea, I don't see him waiving to any of those teams. Does anyone know exactly what his NTC is, though?

Easier said than done. The list of centers better than Benn isn't a huge one and of those I can't imagine many would be available.

As much as I disagree with it, it seems their plan to move Benn doesn't require the acquisition of a center better than him, merely a "top 6 center"...which has a range of definitions when you include the entire league and the litany of 40 point 2nd line centers.

This team's best chance at taking a step up is getting Benn to be a 50+ % faceoff guy. I know that's a challenge but it's one worth taking on IMO.

One of the reasonings has to be the lack of depth on left wing. Eriksson is the only true left wing on the team (only looking at the top 6), and even in the AHL and in our prospect pool, it's predominantly right wingers. Benn was a left winger, IIRC, and him and Eriksson on the left side has us set for a long while there.

Also, it's probably easier to acquire a top 6 center as opposed to a top 6 left winger, or at least in theory it is. There aren't many teams deep at LW, while there are several deep at center. That, and LW just seems to be a weaker position in the league in general (but I can't really tell, as I'm losing track of who plays left and who plays right).

But I think if Benn sticks at center next season, goes out and scores 35-45-80, and has at least a decent FO% (~45-47%), at that point does it not make sense to move him back to wing. I agree in that face-offs are the one asset of his game he really needs to work on, but that alone shouldn't be the deciding factor in whether he plays wing or center.

I just don't want to see a 3rd line center (Stoll, Bozak, etc.) push Benn back to the wing. I'd also rather not see a prospect (Pirri, Spooner, etc.) be the cause, either. And I don't see us acquiring a legit top 6 center anytime soon. I think Benn at center is not only what's best for him going forward, but also for the team.

This is the opposite of reality. Wingers are always easier to come by than centers.

Wingers, yes. Left wingers, though, I'm not sure about.

You needn't get that specific. Most wingers of any quality can play, even if it's slightly less than their best, either wing position. This is even more true and less worrisome when they are flanking a stud center; they are in a support, not leading position.

This is neither here nor there but I could see Vincour turning into a Zubrus-like player.

Very excited about the new gig as the primary website writer for the @DallasStars. Really looking forward to it. It's going to be fun.
Great news! Really happy Mark got to continue on writing for the Stars. And very smart of the Stars to not let him move on and give him a job.

Good for Mark and us fans. He's one of the more prolific writers for the Stars, he knows the players, gets access, and I hope he gets to go to Pittsburgh to cover the draft for the Stars. Can't wait for the rookie camp coverage.

Well deserved for Mark. Glad he's still going to be covering the Stars.

That's the thing I'm most excited about. In the past, Mark has been footing the bill to go to tournaments or the draft. I think that it's probably likely he'll be traveling quite a bit with the team.

This is perfect ... just perfect.

Most home games starting at 7 this season according to Mark..From his facebook.

Quote:
The primary start time for Dallas Stars games this season will be 7:00 pm. That's for both weeknights and weekends. Here's an explanation for the change.

The Dallas Stars have made a point of shifting the club’s weeknight puck drops to 7 p.m., from the 7:30 starts that have been the case in recent years. Many fans had requested earlier starts during the week, allowing more families to attend games and get home at earlier times. The Stars have acknowledged and accommodated these requests, and while there will be an occasional later start for television or other purposes, virtually all Dallas Stars night games (weeknight and weekend) will be 7 p.m. starts.

Other somewhat random news is the Plano Dr pepper starscenter is reopening. I drove by and they
were working and a sign was on the building.

The start time change also makes sense as part of a general transition to being more in sync with the other teams in the Central that the Stars hope to eventually join.

There could be a slight advantage to making the visiting Pacific teams play earlier as well.

Dallas = West Czech Republic?

Doesn't have the same ring as when we were overloaded with Finns, but it works for me.
