Knew this was a nasty rumour. People have a hate on for Kane and are always happy to spread the worst about him. I, for one, would prefer if we didn't alienate such a talented young individual with constant lies...

It's not that we hate Kane, it's just that he looks unhappy. We are more or less saying if he doesn't want to be here we don't want him. Only time will tell with a multi-year deal or not.

If the Jets had a legit #1 center for Kane to play alongside, and the Jets were consistent playoff participants, Kane - and every other Jets player - would likely be very VERY happy playing in Winnipeg.
Some players will want the bright lights of a bigger city, and they have that chance to change teams when they become UFA's. But, to me the key is having a consistent playoff team.
And... with TNSE, the unbelieveable fan experience at MTSC, and great winters (if last year is any indication ) players would love to be a part of it. Miss the playoffs for 5+ yrs, then no one will be too interested. TNSE and Chevy will work very hard to create a winning culture here.
The teams that seem to be 'hot' right now in terms of player interest are mostly playoff teams - the Detroits, Pittsburghs, Philly's and even SJ. But players aren't scrambling to join the Islanders and TML (oh, wait aren't they in a big city?) or Columbus, etc. But if they were perennial playoff teams, that would all change, IMO.
The Jets aren't going to make the playoffs until year 4 or 5 I don't think.
I think that is very hard to accurately predict until we see what the org does before October. Draft, RFA, UFA and trades could all move the stick closer or farther away.
I'd like to see Kaner come out and say he's happy in Winnipeg, but truthfully I never bought into the talk about him being unhappy.
I think you will once he signs. Not much of a bargaining ploy to say your happy where you are until you get the contract signed. Instead his agent is saying the right things. we are not asking for a trade, talks are speeding up etc.
IMO if a players # 1 reason to sign somewhere is the weather then you have a guy who might like to spend a little too much time on the golf course or at the beach. If a guys # 1 reason to sign somewhere is the bright lights and the big city you may have a playboy and bar hound on your hands. Personally I like players who only care about playing and winning and are willing to go anywhere to do it.

Harf to accurately predict but as stated i think one of season coukd move us into the playoffs. Then again one off season coyld put us deep in the lottery
I agree that once he signs, we will see a more Winnipeg-centric Evander Kane. I'd really like to see him get involved with a worthwhile charity to end this gossip nonsense.
I'm glad the air is cleared. I knew from the start that this rumor coming secondhand knowledge from a tit at RDS was BS. Like this guy doesn't have enough Montreal drama to spin webs over. On a side note I'm sure Pav's will ink long term soon.

I want to see him at least look personable. He looks so aloof that he's really hard to relate to.
i wouldnt take this article as any kind of proof of the real situation. What would anyone expect chevy to say?
i wouldnt be surprised if he wants out...but he is tied to us whether he likes it or not....it does him no good to have it public that he wants to move....when he signs, thats when we know.
dont believe press releases...they are unreliable as rumour.

He's a 20 year old millionaire. Of course he's hard to relate to. I think it's remarkable how "relateable" some hockey players are to the fans, because when you get down to it they really have nothing in common with us.

If Kane wanted out, there are options for that. Negotiating a new contract isn't one of them. His agent is ready to start negotiating. That's not a lie being fed to anyone by the Jets, that's a fact that has been widely reported now.
So whatever rhetoric we're getting from the Jets management, the fact remains that Kane intends on re-signing, and that's the take away.
i dont totally understand the process, what are his options?
Very limited. Sign, or sit, really. No arbitration rights as an RFA.
Quote:
The current team must extend a "qualifying offer" to a restricted free agent to retain negotiating rights to that player.
Players who earned less than $660,000 in the previous season must be offered 110 percent of last season's salary. Players making up to $1 million must be offered 105 percent. Players making over $1 million must be offered 100 percent.
If the qualifying offer is not made, the player becomes an unrestricted free agent.
If the player rejects a qualifying offer, he remains a restricted free agent.
