Jay Feaster said 10 years from now this kid will probably be the best player taken in the draft. He's probably 3-5 years away from making the NHL, but he reminds me so much of another center the Flames took heat for drafting in the 1st round - Joe Nieuwendyk.

Who didn't? I got to lol when they made that pick because there was better players there by far and then when he said that I hit the floor.. What a joke

... And once again, a player previously described as an intriguing prospect with solid skills becomes a worthless piece of crap with no chance of ever playing in the NHL the split-second he's drafted by the Calgary Flames.

This is definitely an intriguing pick to say the least. A little on the bold side for Calgary but he's a prospect that we probably won't be able to evaluate properly in relation to his draft pick for a very long time, which won't sit well with the impatient hf population haha.

He is essentially an entire year younger than Yakupov (11 Months), so that puts a perspective on the growth he could potentially have over a season.
Most intriguing player taken in the draft (due to where he was selected, and his potential upside)

Though I would have liked a Dman, the idea that he's the "wild card" intrigues me. He could be the next big thing, he could flop, who knows? It will be interesting following his progress.
I would be surprised if they have already come to that decision, but you never know.
You never know but if they were really targeting him as it seems, I'm sure they'd already talked to him about in interviews and amongst the organization. Dubuque is a great USHL organization right now though. He'll have a chance to ease himself into the highly improved competition he'll be facing and then transition into the NCAA game.

One thing is certain: this was their guy, and they did exactly what they wanted. It's one thing to just create a list of players and pick whoever is the highest available, but it's another to come in with a definite plan. Risky, but no one knows what the future holds.

Your correct.
He just confirmed in an interview that he will spend one season in Dubuque.
Definitely a boom/bust type player and I would have loved for the Oilers to grab him with another pick or something but Calgary isn't doing a total rebuild and it would have made more sense to grab a safer player if they intend to compete now. They should have kept the 14th and taken Teravainen imo but we'll see what happens when/if Jankowski makes the NHL.

Good move for him. Dubuque has been developing a lot of talent lately and since they'll be losing most of their top players (Girgensons, Matheson, older players) so he'll have an opportunity to be a go to player for them offensively and right away with Brandon Shea I'd assume.

I'll say. Before this draft I had no idea where or what the hell Dubuque was!

Great pick at #21.
Man Feaster really likes to put his foot in his mouth...what an idiotic statement.......I guess Edmonton will be trading Yak now for Jankowski....
