Just missed him.

Samuelsson's not a bad pick. A big centerman which you need.

Ulf's kid. Compares to Claude Lemeiux. I dunno if he's a first rounder or not but I love the pedigree. Also the damn draft should have been on the NHL Network all along. NHL and NBC are getting complaint emails from me.

I had him ranked 15th among WHL skaters, which is alot lower than most people had him. With that being said, he had a great finish to the season. Read up more about him on my blog.

Quote:
Samuelsson is a big-bodied forward who joined the Oil Kings in the last half of the season. An impressive size and skill combination as he showed the ability to produce offensively throughout the year. Plays angry and often crosses the line in regards to dangerous hits, filling the role of a true agitator. Skating needs to improve in order for him to be counted on as an offensive player at the next level, but it doesn't hold him back in junior.

IDK how I really feel. He could be a power forward esque player. Then again, I'm just worried a lot of this has familiarity with Ulfie.

I hope he proves me wrong. I really do. Rooting for the kid. Seems like he's a power forward. Hope he turns into Raffi II lol

I have a friend who has seen Samuelson play in person. Says he has everything you want except for elite speed.

Samuelsson was expected to go in this range on a lot of recent rankings.

Great line mate for MacLean, they can take figure skating lessons together.

Okay that's good to hear. I haven't had a chance to follow the recent rankings. Hopefully this pans out.

I get an uneasy feeling seeing us draft a guy at 27 right alongside a TSN ranking of 36, but I can only hope we know something everyone else doesn't. Ulf sure looked proud though...

Am I the only one not upset with this pick? It could have been better, but he fills a need, and I like his game.

If there is anything that annoys me is the unwillingness to do anything at the draft. Move up a few freaken picks, unless of course this is the guy they wanted all along.

I'm quite happy with the pick. Wasn't THE guy I wanted but he was in my top 3 and I think he fits our teams style perfectly. Now if we could only move up a bit and get Frk I'd be thrilled with this draft.

From the comments everyone's making....

Samulsson = Taylor Pyatt 2.0 with a hint of Raffi Torres.

I'd say it's the other way around. Maybe a bit more offensive upside.

The performance from Pyatt in the playoffs, and any hint of Raffi is always a good thing. I see this as a good pick if this is all true.

When a few of the forwards fell in the draft I was hoping wed move up.

I like what Ive heard about this kid though. How far away from playing at the NHL level is he?

From what I've been reading 2-3 years at the soonest. Anyone have a better idea of how far out he is?

Man oh man does Henrik Samuelsson look like a fantastic prospect.

I went in wanting to not like him. Conceptually, I didn't like the idea of this player. I didn't like his "on paper" much. In spite of that, I ****ing love this prospect. Poor man's Gabriel Landeskog.

Great board work, great in front of the net, meaner than ****, always involved after the whistles, throws his weight around, surprisingly effective skater, great puck protection, is always putting the puck toward the front of the net, great reflexes, good reaction times, good vision, quick shot, heavy shot, he's just a ****ing horse. A horse.

This is one player for which I'll be grateful for our penchant for nepotism.

I'm sure Rick Nickel and Don Maloney are watching.

After that, it gets tough. Aberg, Kerdiles, Bozon, Laughton, Frk, Sissons, who knows?

I like Hertl and Samuelsson because they are big, rough, skilled, heady, two way centers. First liners in the NHL? I doubt it. NHL players? I'd bet on it. At 27th, isn't that the best you can hope for?

For Hertl I see a Martin Hanzal and Tomas Plekanec hybrid, but a slightly lesser version of what that would be.

For Samuelsson, maybe a Johan Franzen mixed with Troy Brouwer but can play center.

Pitt has dealt Z. Michalek to Phx in exchange for prospect Harrison Ruopp plus a 3rd-round pick this year (81st) and goalie Marc Cheverie.
Note: Trade was scrolled on NHL Network.

WOOHOO!!!!

Didn't get a chance to watch many of the prospects this year but Samuelsson was noticeable in a very good way when I was catching Gormley during the Memorial Cup. Also played out of the same rink I grew up playing in. Very cool.
