He definitely has the "I'm going to kill you" look. Much happier we got him over Wilson.

Perhaps. I've seen his name on a few mock line-ups this off-season. In any case, it seems like he has big competition down on the farm. Maybe Laughton - Holmstrom as 2/3 of the Phantom shutdown line.

There's a lot of positive stuff posted here about Laughton, but how in the name of Ed Van Impe can the Flyers so purposefully ignore inserting quality Dman prospects into the system?

On an unrelated stream-of-consciousness point, if/when Cousins arrives in the minors, I propose that his nickname be the Phantom Menace.

It's an extremely solid pick, low "talent" upside, but high expectation to have a decent career.

Classless by Pit to boo while he was on the stage. I hope he holds a massive grudge, I would.

My head is a bit dizzy.
I wonder if there's a way the Flyers could get this Mike Richards character on the team. They seem very fond of him.

Hmmm

Simon Gagne was drafted as a center. Jeff Carter and Mike Richards play on the same line in LA.

We were going to boo their pick in 2014 regardless of what they did today. So...

The more I think about it, the more I like the pick. I'll assume they know what they're doing with Centers. Was just tough to see with Maatta, Finn, Bystrom, and Thrower on the board still. I feel like they're trying too hard to re-create Mike Richards when they could have not traded him at all (NOT looking to open that can of worms), with Schenn and now Laughton.

We should boo the **** out of everything BUT their selection, then give him a classy round of applause when he takes the stage. **** Pittsburgh and their whiny, homerish, bandwagoneering, sports knowledge-deficient, Yinzer yahoo fanbase.

Strengths

Laughton may be the smartest, most competitive draft eligible player for the NHL Draft. He always brings a high complete level, and is the kind of player who is willing to do whatever it takes to win. He will block a shot, make a strong offensive play, back check or drop the gloves if it could equal team success. He is strong positionally in all three zones, and plays a very effective two-way play. He respects his duties at both ends of the rinks and doesn’t chase the puck around the ice. He has a very good shot that is effective from the slot. He shows strong vision with the puck in both the offensive and neutral zone, and is effective at making smart decisions with the puck. He reads the ice well and makes crisp tape-to-tape passes. He is a very smart hockey player who seems to know what to do at all times. He anticipates well and can see a play two to three plays in advance.
Looks like he has:

-Intangibles
-2 way skills

Edit: Link to scouting report.

You know something, I really like it. I think that can be a very scary good team in the future. Now, in the 2nd round, address that defense position.
I like it.

Can never hurt having the smartest guy on the ice. . . unless you put Einstein out there for some reason. He lacks ideal size and speed.

He's also on LTIR with a nasty case of the deaths.

Intangibles equal to Toews?!

If so, let's bathe in the cups

I guess my personal philosophy is that you dont take safe players in the first round. Everyone says He wont be a ppg forward and his ceiling is a maybe 2nd line center most likely a 3rd/4th line. Feel like you should maybe go for a guy who has some offense and in tr 2nd round take a defensive minded center if you want

I really like this kid, and I understand he's a fantastic kid - great attitude, hard worker, just a great all round kid.

However, I would have been happier to see Maatta or Finn drafted. Or little Subban, for that matter.

But really, who needs defense and goaltending? Score 12 goals, allow 8, Flyers win. The world according to Homer.

However, I'm so thankful to the Caps that they took Wilson, and that he's not a Flyer. It wouldn't have been pretty around here had Homer called his name.

He's not a very good fighter, but it seems like he's not afraid of the bigger guys either.

Seeing as how he's not a D and not a G, it's definitely drafting to our strengths of development. The rest of the draft can be used for D as long as we don't "miss players" and draft retards.
