I agree with the positives when addressing Skjei, has the size and couple that with a pair of skates and you have a player. A teams skating ability is always a hard skill set to defend against, especially when that includes size. We are getting thin in that dept with Erixon and McIlrath supplying the prospect pool.
Sounds to me like what I'm starting to think of as the Rangers-type defenseman. Tyutin, Staal, Girardi, McDonagh, Erixon, Skjei all have individual traits of their own, but are all defenseman in the same mold overall. Good, simple defensive game, probably top out at around 30 points in the NHL. Obviously McDonagh and Erixon could eventually score more, but you get what I'm driving at.
Yep; they all be clones sort of. That's why we need to at least hold on to McIIrath(since he isn't a clone)until he is ready to play up here. Gotta find out what he is.
This could have been so much worse. At least we didn't do something mildly retarded like Calgary did.
Actually, I think Jankowski has the ability to be a big time player. I think he's the wrong player for that franchise. He's a long way away from being ready. Feaster may not be there when the kid is ready.

You may be 100% correct, but I think there was better talent available and they should have just kept their 14th pick IMO.

I like this pick. There wasnt much offensive talent in the late round. So take the best available. If anything trade up for the 12 and draft Grig or Forsberg. But I'm happy, our defense is getting only better. Defense wins championships, we just need to improve our offense. We still have 5 picks in the draft. We dont have a second round pick correct?
Well, I wanted a forward or a trade back, so I was a bit disappointed when I heard this kid's name. But, I've learned to trust Gordie and Gorton, so it made me wonder why I hadn't seen more of the knowledgeable posters pushing for him. And it appears that no one thought he'd be available this late - all the mocks had him going 15-25 or so.
I do like what I read about him - big and perhaps the best skater in the draft? Sign me up.
More importantly, does this make it that much easier to trade a defenseman for a forward that can help the big club...?
I had him slotted just outside of the first round. The thing about him is that the package is very enticing with the size and skating, but the other tools like positioning, offense and tenacity are a little underwhelming. That's not to say they're bad or missing, just that they don't jump out at you. He should improve in those areas, and he certainly has tons of character.

I agree. Calgary needs as many prospects that can move quickly to the NHL. I thought it was a poor move. Feaster should have gotten more to drop 7 spots.

Hahahaha. Let me clarify: all the mocks that had their own URLs.
I hear you - by the same token, you're never going to get a "complete" player at 28. And the hardest things to teach are size and skating. A young player in particular can develop offense and learn better positioning with proper coaching. (Physicality may be more difficult - seems to me that's something players either take to naturally or they don't.)
As I mentioned a while back, I haven't really followed this draft, so I don't have a dog in this fight. I just wanted to stay away from the guys who projected to be third line grinders (Matteau in particular) and goalies in the first round. Would've preferred a forward, but I've learned to trust Gordie and Gorton and I like what I read about this kid.
Now, I'm very curious to see what happens with our next three picks tomorrow and any potential trades over the next several days (and, oh yeah, where Schultz signs).

Haha, I didn't mean to toot my horn there. Just referencing it.
It's a very solid pick at this point inn the draft. Looking forward to watching his development.
