CBJ GM, trades for a russian goalie but says the following

Quote:
According to Scott Howson, there were no offers today for Nash. Also, if Yakupov fell to No. 2, Howson would have traded the pick.
wonder what his beef with Nail is

Hopefully not in this pre-season! Just sayin'!

Can the league ban for hits in development camp? Are we about to find out?

Yup. Even with minimal Russian factor he's still scared.

I'm just getting caught up with the draft now, lousy NBCSN cut out after 2 hours and I had it DVR'd.

Noticed that in the last two drafts, Pittsburgh has collected Morrow, Harrington, Pouliot and Maatta. That's going to be a damn impressive blueline someday.

Also very interesting to see Teuvo slide so much with all the recent hype for him. I thought for sure he was going to either us, Carolina or Winnipeg.

ok i get the russian factor scare but why do you give up 3 picks for a goalie who could end up flaming out just as bad.

its like saying milk scares the **** out of me while drinking a milkshake.

it's stupid logic, Bob can just decide he would rather play in the KHL and leave.

Parise to Pittsburgh is now looking like a realistic destination with them trading Michalek.

I believe this puts them at around 14million under the cap going forward. I hate Pittsburgh, I honestly don't know if I can handle Parise going there.

Does Parise want to be known as the 3rd or 4th best player on a team? We will find out

with Pitts / Shero doing what he has done today, I think we now HAVE to trade for Suter's rights. I know some think that is impossible but I simply don't believe we can afford to sit back and see what happens. If you get Suter, Parise would likely follow. Trade our #46 and anything else not in our top prospect pool (THN top 50) .... if you need to send our 2nd round pick and 3rd, so be it. If we need to give the #46 and Phillips / Cuma, so be it. WE NEED SUTER, we can't let him get away.

You could argue that it's the fanbase that has the bias at this point, and CBJ is so tenuous right now they don't dare buck it.

But, really, Howson is just an idiot. How he has a job after the last year is unexplainable. If there's no NHL franchise in Columbus five years from now, they should put his name on the gravestone as "Killed by".

Disagree. I would bet a lot of money that he wouldn't sign with whoever trades for his rights before July 1. I think it would be pointless.

I have to agree Jan Itor. They didn't come so close to July 1 to sign days before.

Poile has already said he won't trade Suter's rights. And, no, I wouldn't give up the #46 for them anyway.

If Suter comes here, it'll be because we pay him as much as anyone else is willing to, and his wife with the 18-mo toddler wants her family around her to support her and their child (and future children) when he's away from home so much of the year.

You can't trade for something that's not for sale, and offering a 2nd+ for someone's UFA rights tells potential free agents that you're a horrible GM that has no idea what he's doing.

Aside from the fact that we have the worst logo in the history of professional hockey, the Canucks' logo isn't much better. They could have put something else, dumb Canucks ...

Cash and a conditional 2013 (on him resigning) are the only thing I'd give up for Suter's rights. And the conditional probably wouldn't be a 2nd.

But really, he's going to sign here or he's not, and a week of talking to him in advance isn't going to affect that.

He'd have to be blind, deaf, dumb, and stupid to not know the Wild are coming for him at this point, and his wife has certainly noticed as well. You think she wants to raise kids in Detroit?
