I do not dislike Dumba. He looks like a very good defenseman and I am sure he will be a great addition to our blueline when he gets here. I like his physical play, and I like that he seems like he has a scoring touch. Our blueline really lacked that. Hopefully he becomes a great PP QB as well.
It's was pretty clear that the majority of the best scouts in the world thought that the defensemen quality was higher than the quality of the forwards.

We have a half dozen prospects in the pipe to address our "lack of scoring." Furthermore, most of our scoring problems were related to the fact we couldn't break out of our own end because our defense sucked.

I think when Dumba made it past NYI, Fletcher knew we were getting one of "our guys." At least that's my suspicion.

That said, I am so ****ing happy about the pick.

EDIT: Also, this thread is reading like last year's Brodin thread. A bit premature.
Those complaining about Dumba are a vocal minority. The majority are far more in favor of Dumba than complaining.

So you should take the same shot from Brodin last year, and combine it with that shot of Dumba this year and make a future D-pairing avatar!

so 8 or 9 prospects competing for jobs, Fletcher says. 8 or 9...

Yikes.
Or is he including Granlund?

Granlund
Larsson
Coyle
Bulmer
Zucker
Phillips (?)

Brodin
Dumba

who else, conceivably?

Possibly giving the benefit of the doubt to someone like Cuma or Genoway?

What I like, especially reading the last Russo blog, is that Dumba was one of just a handful of defensemen who could end up being "complete" guys. Murray kind of has it all although nothing stands out good or bad. Reinhart has the size and defensive ability, but still needs to refine the offense. Dumba has the offense and physical play, but needs to work on the defensive game. A lot of other guys had huge holes in their game, including Trouba.

I also think Dumba is one of the guys closer to the NHL than others, but no need to rush him.

This is an absolutely fantastic pick by Minnesota!

Dumba gives Minnesota a physical edge they haven't had on defense for a long, long time. It also gives them an electric player they haven't had since Gaborik left.

He also gives them some offense on the backend.

He's a gamble but he has the right attitude and the smarts to succeed.

Has everyone forgotten, he was 16 years old when he played in the WHL and won the rookie of the year? 17 last year? He's not even 18 yet. That is dynamic!

Same here and was frightened to read HF between Brodin and the Burns trade.

That sounds about right.

Dumba could jump between Granlund and Brodin to the #2 prospect or he could sink to #5 behind Larsson. It depends on if he rounds out his game or if he drops off.

Really, Brodin was a shrewd, shrewd pick.

I think his game is a lot closer than people think... but the way he plays the game, I'd feel more comfortable waiting at least 1 more year so he can bulk up a bit more.

Dumba's only real hole is some of his defensive play. That's not to say he's bad in his own end. He's definitely not, he just isn't primarily a defensive guy. The biggest thing to note is that defense, positioning, gap control, these things can be taught. His negatives are things that can be corrected, and can even be corrected at the CHL level if he's disciplined and well coached.

As for making the team, give him a shot, but I doubt he'll win a spot out of camp. With this team, I don't see any reason not to let him win a spot if he can.

I'm just not concerned about him bulking up, but getting overwhelmed and developing bad habits. Muscle is easy to add relatively speaking, but you don't want to screw up the development.

Love this pick. I was scared that Fletch might go for Forsberg because he was still on the board, or Teuvo as well. We now have one of the most well rounded prospect pools in the NHL. No weaknesses.
