Trade our #46 and anything else not in our top prospect pool (THN top 50) .... if you need to send our 2nd round pick and 3rd, so be it. If we need to give the #46 and Phillips / Cuma, so be it. WE NEED SUTER, we can't let him get away.
While I agree with you that we need to make some kind of desperation move, I still insist that any deal we make for Suters rights be contingent on his agreeing beforehand to a contract with us. The other posters are right that he did not make it this close to July 1 just to sign before he gets to hear what other teams have to pitch to him.

In the last 4-5 years, the biggest piece given up for negotiating rights is a 3rd with no strings and the rights to another UFA. That was Jay Bouwmeester at the draft. Everyone else is closer to July 1 and conditional 3rds or 4ths.

He'd have to be blind, deaf, dumb, and stupid to not know the Wild are coming for him at this point, and his wife has certainly noticed as well. You think she wants to raise kids in Detroit?

I agree with everything you said an others.... but I just would love to see them play ball I guess. Really make the push, and if we trade a 3rd or 4th round pick to do so, it's not that bad of an investment.

I get it that it looks like a wasted move but I am just not fine with going into the Suter battle with the likes of the Blues and Wings.

My trade idea wasn't supposed to be an exact measure, just a get it done Mr Fletcher

If I were to give an honest trade, 3rd rounder and Cuma if he wants him

Too bad, the rest of the draft won't be in HD in Canada since there's no NHL Network HD.

You still can't trade for something that's not for sale, and Suter's rights are not for sale.

So what's everyone's guess on whether or not we're going to trade our 3rd and 4th rounders to get into the late 2nd again tomorrow?

No idea, I'll probably find out minutes after I wake up sometime after noon tomorrow.

Looking at the Staal trade... would you have done this if you were GMCF. Trying to make an accurate equal from the Wilds prospect / current roster

Staal

----

#7 pick
Brodziak
Zucker

That isn't equal.

BTW; I think Pittsburgh made some waves as well due to the draft being in their city.

I hear what you're saying, but I believe Poile when he says Suter's rights will not be moved. He's got a very ticklish fan situation to manage. He's finally had to admit in public that Suter is going to July 1, and he's still telling those fans that the Preds will be in the mix on July 1. Well, no, they really won't be, but Poile is playing Pontius Pilate here, and trying to push all the responsibility onto Suter. If he trades Suter's rights, that strategy falls apart. When Suter signs somewhere else, it becomes "We would have had a chance, but Poile knifed Ryan in the back, so why should we be surprised?"

And it isn't just the fans. He's trying to not lose Shea Weber too, and believe it that Weber is watching closely.

I mean, this is getting to be a very old game, that everyone knows the moves of.

Hope so. I like what we've done with our 2nd rounders lately.

It's scary how similar it was to the Burns trade last year.

I'd turn down just about anything knowing Staal wasn't going to sign an extension.

So what would you say would be an equal from a Wild's point of view. Your reply didn't say much at all

Knowing that Staal wasn't going to sign an extension? Nope.
I know. Better 1st rounder, lesser prospect, similar calibre NHL player. Maybe we set the standard?

Well, we don't really have the Brandon Sutter type player, as he's younger than Brodziak, and he was the "Coyle" in this deal (it doesn't get done without him).

I didn't want Staal as much as others so I am glad this didn't happen and the fact that he came out and said he won't sign did limit any trade options Shero had. I think both sides did well... just thought this post might be interesting to see what they would have wanted from MN if CF was willing. (glad he wasn't)

Dumba was the right move!

And it was the team hosting the draft. It's in New Jersey next year, right? Start shaking in your skates, Kovy.

And there ya go. Isn't it amazing given the anti-tampering rules in the NHL, and yet pretty much everyone knows everything anyway. It's almost a little ridiculous. It's like these guys are blinking in morse code or something. You think Carolina is about 500% certain that Jordan will sign an extension? Hell yes.
