Pretty stupid if true given the uncertainty of the next CBA.

The classy thing to do, but maybe not the smartest.

Now we wait.

0 sense if it's true. Send him to the AHL or at least wait for the new CBA.

For a second I thought your source was Benoit Brunet LOL

Since it isn't, already is more legit to start with

I mean if theres no lockout, I guess that it's the best option to do; specially if the cap is going up. But that's alot of assumptions...

I will be so disappointed if this is true. THere is way too much uncertainty in the CBA to make a move like this.

Really hope not. Send him to Hamilton or Europe, he doesn't belong on our cap.

Please no. His remainings on the salary cap will hunt this team for the next years if that's the case.

Just send the guy down to Hamilton.

Send him to Europe.

Or wait to see if there's an escape in the new CBA.

I'll believe it when I see itin tsn.

I hope Bergy is smart enough to realize that sending him to Hamilton is a much smarter option.

Classless? Is more how Gomez has played than the treatment he deserves!

Why? Why not completely take his cap off the salary by burying him in the minors. It makes more sense from the organization's point of view.

Bob McKenzie ‏ @TSNBobMcKenzie
Buying out Gomez's contract, of course, is the dumbest thing any organization could possibly do in a salary cap world. Here's why:

If MTL sends Gomez to AHL, it frees up $7.3M in cap space each of next two seasons. Price to be paid for that is Gomez's $10M in salary.

Whatever. IMO, buy him out next year, not this year. This year minors/europe or 2 year cap penalty with a re-entry waivers situation.

Either way, if so, we don't always NEED to spend to the cap. I mean, what good free agents will come here anyway? We need to stop living in a dream world where we could get a top UFA this summer. At best, we overpay for Semin. Parise, Suter, etc... Want no part of the habs right now.

MTL could save $3.3M cash by buying out Gomez contract but would have salary cap hits of $3.5M, $4.5M, $1.66M and $1.66M for each of 4 yrs.

No organization that has money (MTL, TOR, NYR etc) would or could justify a buyout that would create dead cap space to save a few million $.

As Bob Mac says it's plain stupid....Now if Marc does it? kills the buzz of the draft pick ,and as Bob Mac says put's a light on the gm of not being smart, quote "dumbest thing any organization could possibly do ".

Buying out Gomez does Habs no good ...they buy him out ? his salary this year is 5 MILLION and his cap hit when bought out will be 3.5 million

Next year his salary is 4.5 million ,and if we buy him out his cap hit is 4.5 million!!!

buying him out = DUMB DUMB AND DUMBER.
