Prust changed his agent for a reason. Maybe he felt Newport Sports was too close to Sather. He hired Ritch Winter who is not as friendly with Sather as Newport Sports.

The team shouldn't overpay him just for sentimental sake. A part of me is frustrated with Prust because he was really a nobody until he came here and Tortorella helped him redefine himself as a player (though not to take away any credit from Prust's hard work) so I wish he would look at that and want to stay because of it. At the same time, though, it's a business and I'm not going to hold it against him if he thinks he has a better opportunity elsewhere.
My thoughts exactly.

Great username by the way...

I'm pretty sure this is just his agent being stupid. Prust knows he's not worth 2.2 million, and doesn't seem like the guy that would try to get money he doesn't deserve.
Hope this gets resolved, because that opens up a spot for someone like Mitchell...
Unfortunately, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Islanders steal him from us...

Good. Prust can go to another team and teach them how to keep a puck in their own zone unforced for minutes on end.

I liked Prust two and three seasons ago. This season he was terrible, and on a walk year.

Think of our key UFA's coming up. No reason to tie a penny into an expendable guy.

I think there is some significant interest in Prust out there. Some team just might give him that 3yr. $6.6 mil contract. I really like Prust--but that's too much IMO. Not going to blame him though--just as long as he stays out of our division.

I was afraid of this. The ufa list stinks so he may get overpaid. Biron may too . Sad thing is sather would be right to walk

Truth is in terms of roster spots you can't pay a 4th liner 2 million plus

Hagelin, Richards, Gaborik, Kreider, Stepan, Callahan, Dubinsky, Anisimov, Boyle, Rupp are locked in. Leaves 2 spots available. They have to get another scorer, faceoff C is likely.

I agree Konopka fits as a 4th line face off winner/fighter that will come cheaper

Seems to me Burke would be all over a player like Prust and would give him that contract.

Steve Ott at the right price may be a nice fit in a deal . Prust should take the 1.8 per offer it's fair

some cheaper options below for 4th line wing?

How much would Travis Moen cost?

Moss, David
Tootoo, Jordin
Kostopoulos, Tom
Parros, George
Asham, Arron

2.2....later Prust!!! I hearf a rumor that there was a 1 mill $ diff between both parties.Like we all said on here.1.1-1.5(which is even too much) in the 3 yt RANGE is good. But i guess 1.8 is fair imo, about .3 too much..i like Prust my fav Ranger, but NYR gave him his chance to play n shine n did..if he wants to h a greedy ***** fck him,he can walk 4 th liners are replacable,NYR has plenty..Im sure family, friends and GIRLFRIEND have convinced him what he is worth as well.

$2.2m lol, I wouldn't go above $1.5m.

Too bad, enjoy wherever you end up Prust.

All the best

Rupp 1,6 M

No way is it justifiable doling out 2,2 M for Brandon Prust in a 3 year deal
See ya

Konopka incoming?
Or Tootoo maybe?
I would love Tootoo as first option and Konopka as second...always liked Tootoos game would b a nice fit

Meh. Hardly a travesty. 4th liners aren't too hard to replace. And this guy had NO hands whatsoever. How about getting a guy who can play hard but give you the chance of doing even a little bit offensively when he's on the ice?

This is Prust's opportunity to get paid. Good for him. The Rangers need to be prudent though.

Shaping up to be a not so good offseason so far.

I will lose it if he signs with Pittsburgh.

$2.2 million is way too much for a player that brings little offense. If he was able to post numbers from his 2010-11 season on a consistent basis, then I wouldn't mind, but that season seems like the outlier thus far.

If we do lose him, there are at least some other good options on the free agent market to replace him.

Agreed. I think his game fell off significantly from last year.

whatever--meet in the middle. cap is high enough where 500k doesn't matter. I'd bet they get a deal done.

If he wants to get paid this contact I understand.

But it sounds as though, if Slats is offering 5.4 over 3 or 1.8 million that is exactly what he will get on the market, and if he likes the guys here he should stay for that number.

I would be surprised to see him beat 5.4 on the market.

Was about to say the same thing. This has Burke written all over it. Anything more than 1.6M per is overpayment for Prust, although I could live with 1.8M. So long, Prust.

Until he signs somewhere, all this news says is that he will test free agency. $1.8m for me is too high, should be in line with Rupp/Campbell but the peace of mind of knowing he fits is worth the extra few hundy.

A little surprised he's testing the market of that little difference. His g/f is in the city, a mutual love affair with the team/city. It's probably 50/50 that he stays. it's a gamble on Prust's end. We can't waste time on the first day negotiating with a bunch of 4th liners. If we lock up a Madden/Ott type, he may be without a job here. If we lock up Parise, the money may not be here for him.

If I'm a fourth talent, I sign on with the Rangers for a year, play balls to the wall so Torts gives me third-line ice time, then get an agent like Prust's to con some team into giving me a contract like the one he's seeking.
