Uh, no. An 'aging vet' is exactly what they need from their backup.

Hovinen backing up Bryz is a bigger waste of time. He needs to play with the Phantoms. The guy who is backing up Bryz is going to be someone who is very adept and effective at opening the door on the bench.

Yeah I don't understand why people don't get this. Obviously, you'd like to have an all-star at every position, but backup goalie is not something you should be looking to spend a lot of money on or putting a young kid in there because he might one day be good. Backups are backups for a reason. Very few of them have great stats or great skills. That is why they are backups. If they were better and had better stats, they wouldn't be backups anymore. Just get any bag of bones that will accept $1 million and call it a success. Bryz ain't going anywhere in the near future, and while an injury is always a possibility, it is equally possible for him to no miss a single game. Just sign Leighton and move on.

Stastny became a politician so he probably wouldn't be able to make more than three steps nowadays

Signing Hasek would be a very "Flyers" thing to do. The sheer "wtf" factor would probably make me OK with it.

I will humbly accept this offer and look forward to being the backup goalie in the fall.

Chris Mason would be a nice choice.

Perhaps the greatest playoff beard grower of all time. If he made the SCF it would be ZZ top comparable.

I want Clemmensen or Montoya. I heard word of trying to acquire Nabby. I wouldn't be opposed to that. Clemmensen is such a solid backup.

Our last experience with 2 Russian goalies didn't go so well, need a North American to balance it out.

We'd have to trade for his son then because the Flyers are an organization that believes nothing is more important than family...unless their name is Lindros.

What would look forward to more, his first sprawling save, his elderly cat like reflexes, or him getting tapped on the leg and his helmet and blocker winding up at center ice?

I'm fine with Nabokov, Biron, Clemmensen, Montoya, whomever. Please don't bring back Leighton, though!

All of this happening at once, and resulting in a goal against in his first game. That would just be perfect.

Not quite understanding the interest in Montoya. For a 6th overall pick he's been a major disappointment. One solid year in 10-11, followed up by a mediocre one in 11-12, puts him towards the bottom of my list. Ahead of Leighton or Bacashihua? Sure, but not much ahead.

If we are talking about UFA goalies with experience, Mason is at the top of my list followed by Hedberg, Biron and Clemmensen. I'd also give some consideration to Yann Danis, who was the AHL goalie of the year last season. His career NHL numbers are very respectable.

But there are also a number of UFA goalies who are coming off of their initial contracts that have done very well at the AHL level that I'd take a look at.

Matt Zatkoff - Manchester Monarchs, originally a 3rd round pick of the Kings. Career GAA 2.64, career save %age .915

Cedrick Desjardins - Lake Erie Monsters. Career GAA 2.33, career save %age .919

Brad Thiessen - WB/S Penguins - 2010-11 goalie of the year, career GAA 2.38, career save %age .908

Nothing against Leighton except his age but he did get the Flyers to the finals...remember.

The dancing white plastic bag in American Beauty could have done the same if not better that year.

My windshield wiper got my car through a gruelling 1500-km drive, with long stretches of steep climbs, a couple of hairpin turns, stop-and-start in downtown traffic and the occasional brief rain.
