Wouldn't mind Vail actually. Hopefully in the third round.... but could live with him at 49. It's been a log time since Detroit has drafted a Spitfire though, hasn't it?

Here are some of the guys I'm hoping for.

(1) Nick Ebert -- Local kid (played for the Spitfires anyway, from NJ I think...) was highly touted before getting caught up in his own legend and failing to properly prepare for this past season. May be a little immature right now, but I'd venture to say he'll grow up with time. Hope the wings take a chance on him, talent like his is hard to find after the first round.

(2) Andreas Athanasiou -- Good skater with slick hands. Wouldn't mind taking a shot on him at some point should he fall.

(3) Jarrod Maidens -- Big, physical, good along the boards... Only reason he'd be available is because of injuries. Would take a flier on him for sure.

(3) Lukas Sutter --Good size and he provides some skill and grit. Late bloomer with a skill set the wings don't have a lot of, good hockey bloodlines, may be a good addition to the farm...although I think we already have a ton of bottom six guys in the system.

**Besides Ebert, Maidens and Athanasiou I haven't really looked into many of the prospects for this draft. But considering how many bottom six forwards and serviceable defensemen they already have in the farm, I hope they'll just take as many high-risk/high-reward players as possible (maybe take a chance on a few talented Russians). Which has kind of been their MO the was few years.

I would still very much like to see the wings draft Daniil Zharkov with their pick, he's 6'3 217 pounds and he's been compared to a more defensively sound Martin Havlat. The only problem is that he lacks consistency and is a bit of perimeter player, the problems though I think are outweighed by the fact that we could pick up a potential Elite winger (with size) and with out forward depth we have the ability to swing for the fences.

"Daniil is a scorer who needs but one chance to make good on it. He has an excellent release and he doesn't tip his hand to the goaltender when he's shooting and that creates problems for a goaltender. He is a very good skater with speed and agility and has the ability to shoot off a move or in stride. Given open ice, he is very dangerous and defenders have to be very cognizant of him on the ice because when he breaks open, it is often too late. His 1-1 skills have improved and the next step for him is to make his skating an advantage in beating defensemen 1-1 with the puck and putting them back on their heels and not relying solely on getting behind them. He is smart and recognizes the offensive opportunities that may be unfolding and is quick to act on them. His size is good and with more strength and confidence, he could be a very difficult player to deal with and combined with his skill, could make him a very prolific scorer."

From tsn: http://www.tsn.ca/draftcentre/feature/?id=9829

The Hockey Writers write up about him: http://thehockeywriters.com/daniil-z...-russian-bull/

Any of those players, Zharkov and Jake McCabe are who I'm hoping for. In order,

1. Jake McCabe- You can't go wrong with defenseman from Wisconsin.
2. Lukas Sutter- What you said was spot on.
3. Jarrod Maidens- Again, definitely worth a flier. Especially in the 3rd
4. Danny Zharkov- Probably one of my favorite players in the draft. Goes hard all the time, plays like a bull. Would love a russian too.
5. Nick Ebert- I question his hockey sense, especially in his own end, but his physical attributes are awfully tempting.
6. Andreas Athanasiou- Beautiful skater, but another guy with questionable hockey IQ. I don't hate him, but I don't love him either.

We traded a goaltender selected in the first round for Kyle Quincey. Were there moves I thought we could make and picks available at 19 I wanted? Sure. But the reality is we might have gotten Quincey for nothing given the statistics with 1st round goaltending selections.

but we could've taken someone else if we had the pick?

Some interesting prospects left though. Collberg, Åberg, Finn, Krdiles, Frk, Byström to mention some. Hopefully one of these is still there when we pick at 49.

That's a convenient way of looking at it...

Tampa took a goalie at #19. We could have taken anyone.

I'd take either Bystrom or Frk. I bet they won't even be available though...

Or maybe we'd have taken a goalie. We'll never know and *****ing about it does not serve any purpose.

Yea, i kind of am in the same position. However, i wouldnt have minded if we traded up a little either and drafted Teravainin. Seeing how chicago got him really pissed me off.

Tomorrow, we could get one of Collberg, Bystrom, Finn, Aberg... I'd be pleased.

If the Wings take Athanasou, this will be the third year in a row they take a Youtube "star" (Sheahan and Jurco being the first two).

They'll go for the best player available.

With the 49th overall selection Detroit picks....

Who out there is peaking your interest?

Pontus Åberg - skilled winger
Damon Severson - D
Jarrod Maidens - PF potential
Martin Frk- Skilled guy. could be top 6 if he pans out
Dalton Thrower...anyone who sticks up and fights for a teammate he hardly knows in a prospect game is top notch in my book

I personally want a infusion of toughness, I wanted T.Wilson but knew he would not last into the second. Lets get Sheahan a future winger to help him bang and score the odd goal.

I miss the days of Bobbie P, throwing fists and popping in 20 goals.

I'm not a mod but when there are other threads with similar topic post it there instead of creating a new one
