TSN Scout Craig Button:
Mitchell is a player who enjoys the physical game. He will hit and punish opponents but is also willing and able to stand up to the challenges that comes with playing that particular style. He's a very good skater and can close on opponents very quickly and thus there is not a lot of wiggle room to avoid a check when he's on the ice. Because his skating is so good, he can play versus better players and make them uncomfortable. He plays in straight lines and is very effective along the boards. He doesn't run around without purpose and he is very effective in his approach. He has very good awareness playing and is capable of contributing in areas other than physical play. He battles for the puck, will go to the net and is a player who plays with energy and an undeniable spirit and determination. He gives players on the ice a certain comfort but only if you are on the same team. Playing versus him, is a challenge and not fun because he is focused on doing what he can to disrupt you and help his team win.
Bleh, what a waste with an early second. This was essentially a first rounder and we threw it away on a Coke machine. I wouldn't have minded Moroz in the third round but there were so many quality prospects still available. This was a pick based purely on need.
People said Tom Wilson had Lucic potential, but he scored 9 goals in a top-six role in Plymouth. Moroz scored 16 goals on the fourth line for the Oil Kings as a rookie and is an above average fighter. I'm not going to doubt this pick for now, he's competitive as hell and a great kid off the ice.
I honestly thought third round would be high for him after a nice season, but when you get to the second round the odds of getting a real NHL player goes to like 25% so if they saw him a lot and were that confident in Moroz's potential I will see this pick through for the time being.
Pelss, Maxwell, Rachinski and Peddle all leaving on forward is going to open a spot up in that top-9 for Moroz. Forwards next year will be MSC, Wruck, Lazar, Sammy, Ewanyk, Legault, Moroz, Foster as an overager and possibly two other overagers on forward since the D is pretty solidified.
