"Mitch has been outstanding for us," Oil Kings coach Derek Laxdal says. "He's come a long way. We sent him home as a 16-year-old to get more ice time with the midget team. He's going to be a great power forward. You look at him right now. He's 6-2, 210 pounds, plays a strong power game, a little bit like a [Todd] Bertuzzi.

I know a lot of NHL teams are excited about him. They're always asking, 'are people talking about him?" I tell them, 'yes, there's 30 teams talking about him.' He loves the physical game and we expect some big things out of him in the next two years."

This won't make you feel better, but Button had him as a late 2nd rounder (#56)

Yeah, for some reason all teams and fans think of a 15 goal scorer with some grit is going to be a lucic now adays.

I am not happy with where they took him, but still happy to have this guy. Perhaps they thought someone would take him early also? With how sligh they were with the Gernat and Reider picks, according to where Stu had them on his list, this move seems silly. Was there a reason for it?

I can't describe the amount I hate this pick in the second. Every pick since this I would have taken.

Brutal.

Wow, early on Moroz. MacGregor obviously didn't think he'd be around at 62, and it was that important to grab him. They must like him alot.

So different. Musik was a considered a top 5 possible pick tje year before just his offense never came around on a terrible team. Moroz was ranked in the 170's by some agencies.

Well this exactly tells me that lots of teams had interest in Moroz obviously. Particularly on the heels of a Kings Stanley Cup win where big players were very crucial to the win.

Like the player but not at 32. Matt Finn would of been a preference. Wonder if the Oilers were miffed they lost Samuelsson and took a player they liked perhaps a little earlier. Like the player... not the pick. As mentioned earlier, Moroz was a non factor during the Winterhawk series and the Memorial cup.

I sure hope Moroz doesn't read these boards. How could people say they trust Stu and then turn on him the moment he doesn't pick what they want. I hope Moroz proves you all wrong.

yeah, this is pretty terrible... taking a guy 20+ spots ahead of where most have him.... our management team has proven time and time again that they are not the smartest kids in the classroom, so why do they keep trying to prove how intelligent they are by taking off the board picks

completely wasted pick, there is probably a 5-10% that this guy ever even plays a game.... this is like the abney pick but worse, because it was a really early 2nd rounder, instead of a 3rd rounder

Button didn't have him ranked, he was #56 on TSN/Bob MacKenzie's list. So it should make him feel better because people saying that he was a projected 4th rounder are probably off, Bob's list is usually very close.

Moroz is a much better player than Abney. I like this pick better than the Abney pick tbh. Moroz is an enforcer that can actually play. Those guys are few and far between and are actually quite valuable.

Wake up early for mitch moroz. Meh. Hopefully they stay on him to keep getting better. Kinda tailed off in the playoffs and mem cup.

Dont know if hed have been there for the 3rd but 32? Would have loved one of those dmen.

But we need guys like him. Just need that skill set to keep going up.

Let's be honest here - while Moroz was a reach at 32, he probably would have been taken by a team later in the 2nd round. I'm not disappointed in the pick, I'm disappointed that there were four or five prospects I liked better that were available.

I haven't seen Moroz play much - what makes people think he has 30 goal upside in the WHL?
