I wonder why no team have picked Zharkov yet? he's big and he's a really good skater. Detroit really should've taken him instead of Paterson..

Paterson was #3 NA-goalie on Central Scouting's final ranking list.

Interesting tidbit on Paterson:

Quote:
Jake Paterson has been compared to goalies such as Carey Price and Ryan Miller in regards to style. Good right? After working with Saginaw goalie coach Terry Barbeau, who worked with Buffalo’s Miller for nearly a decade, this is a good thing. At 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds, Paterson has the requisite size NHL teams prize in a goaltending prospect, something that has helped Price for many years.
Again, not a huge guy given the current trend with 6'3" and above goalies, but if he's had good coaching he might have a shot at developing into at least an NHL backup.

I hate this pick. Not only do they take a goalie in the 3rd, which shouldn't happen, they take an OHL goalie, which shouldn't happen, and they reach badly for him to boot.
was ranked 6th best goalie by ISS.

good positioning, quick, but problems with rebounds.

I really hope that the wings trade up to get Zharkov, I liked the Frk pick but it doesn't make up for passing over Zharkov.

You need depth in goaltending...can't just put all the hopes on Mrazek. A lot of goalies going off the board in the first few rounds.

because andersen is almost ready, wants to play NHL soon and the wings don't need their goalie prospect to be ready soon with howard in the NHL and mrazek in the AHL.

Too high for a goalie who just refused to sign with another club. He didn't want to sign with Carolina's poor G depth..where would he sign?

And no, would rather not draft any G before 5th round, but I'll give them the benefit of a doubt before we see how this kid fares.

So everything I have heard on this board about Frk reminds me of Hudler +2 inches. Am I far off?

Since when did the red wings have quality goaltending? all you need is a harding/biron or similar, no need for 5M all star goalies.

We'd be exceedingly lucky if he turns out as good as Hudler. Being taller or not.

Not even close. Frk has a way heavier shot & plays a powerforward game. More of a goal scorer. Hudler is more of a playmaker.

Hudler is soft. Frk is gritty and loves to hit.

Well, from what I've seen is that Frk plays with aggression and plays pretty strong with the puck. I also think he has better skating then Hudler and Pulk. If he can improve his agility he will be a very good pick and should get hurt less as well. His shot is also much heavier and has a nose for the net.

It's been 11 years since the OHL produced a decent goaltender (Mike Smith). They haven't produced a star goalie since the 80s.

I hate to feed the trolls, but I really can't stand this pick.

Might be time to roll the dice on Nick Ebert and hope his upside wins out.
