Chris Driedger of the Calgary Hitmen guess they were serious about drafting G's.

Not a huge body of work. I'm guessing he was a backup last year?

Good pick; probably a few years away from being NHL ready.

Really know nothing about him, I wanted Matt Murray or Brassard of the goalies that were left.

Not a bad pick, but a bit earlier than I would have taken him. Read my report on him.

Quote:
Driedger is my top ranked WHL goalie, despite having seen him struggle off and on all season. He has fairly good technical skills and good size, but he battled with consistency all year. Will be counted on as a true number one goalie, thanks to Calgary dealing co-starter Brandon Glover this offseason. A good value pick if he goes in the 5th round or later, despite needing work in the mental aspect of the game.

NHL Style Comparable: Cam Ward

Top End Potential: Average NHL Starter

Pick Prediction: 5th Round

Goalies were flying off the shelf. Ottawa wanted to draft a goalie so they had to pick him early I think.

Would've liked to pick Paterson, but my scouting of players is limited to the OHL, so I can't really say anything.

I believe Matt Murray would've been a better selection. But let's trust in Murray and Co

Jon Gillies would have been nice a pick earlier.

Here is a Future Considerations article on Chris Driedger.

http://futureconsiderations.ca/inter...hris-driedger/

Quote:
The six-foot-two, 186-pound goalie is a superb talent that combines size, athleticism and a professional demeanor that should have NHL scouts drooling. He is postionally and technically sound, has a good glove, excellent rebound control, and never gives up on a puck. Driedger simply has all the qualities that you look for in a premier tender.
I am interested to hear what the organization says about the pick, since he is not a well known commodity on this board.

future comparison : Alex Auld

Matt Murray was sitting right there ..or Swedish goalie 6'4 from Frolunda

Pretty pissed about this one... If there was any goalie on the board I would have taken its Andrei Makarov from the Blades... Regardless of the Russian factor

If I were drafted by an NHL team, no matter which one, I'd be excited too.
He's going to be a long shot to make it to the NHL, ever.

Yeah, agreed.

Right now, I'm trusting this pick simply based on the Sens scouting staff's track record in find good 3rd & 4th round players.

Don't they all say that ... I have yet to hear a kid say he isn't happy about being drafted.

I guess we'll see with this kid next season when he takes over the #1 job I assume since they traded their other goalie away. Hopefully he grows with the position & continues to get better. Project player I guess.

I was a bit surprised by this pick but based on this, I understand the pick a little bit more

This draft is weak outside of the top-20, so it's not that big of a deal to spend a 3rd on a goalie. And this goalie seems to have all the tools, but is still very raw and needs time to develop. Boom or bust pick
