The key is Prust will test free agency. That doesn't mean he's leaving. If someone is in fact daring enough to give him that type of money, then happy trails, but if he gets there and sees that nobody is willing to beat the Rangers offer anyway, he'll come back and take what was given.

Some moron will give him 2.2.

If he'd scored 10-13 goals again, like he did two years ago, then I'd understand asking for 2.2. After a five goal season? Come on, dude.

i wouldnt be surprised at all if someone gives him 2.5+ per...this is a WEAK free agent class....teams need to get to the floor..id rather spend it on a guy like him if im a floor team than overpaying for a mid lineup player at 5 or 6 mil per.

Love Pruster but he can get the **** out for 2.2 mil. In what world does he think he should get paid more than Boyle?

I love love love love love pruster but you can't give him $2 mil. the $1.8 mil that sather is reportedly offering is too much also

it will suck big time to lose him but if he wants that $$ he can get it somewhere else (hopefully out of the division lol)

Thank god. Love his character and he seems like a great guy I'd rather we not re sign him.

While I admit A LOT cheaper is different from generically 'cheaper', Prust is tough guy who can score in limited auditions and has intangibles. He would kill us, especially if in addition to hustling on principle he was looking to show his new employer he's earning his money. Yes, we need add Konopka, but I think we can squeeze another third of a mil or so to get it done, even though I was more comfortable with a rounded 5m for 3 years.

I'm in the minority, but I say for Prust, and only 3 years, IF he will give us a friendly buyout clause in case he gets semi-injured (not damaged enough for automatic retirement, damaged enough to be ineffective), then I give him that much difference.

Where does it come from?

Any other squeezing of nickels aside, I'd rather have Prust then Biron, who was usually reliable and also makes contributions off ice. But I'd rather half his current salary to keep Prust, and if he's not down with that, I think we can look at Cam Talbot, see if that accelerates his development given how many games Lundqvist plays.

There should be someone within the system that can take this role on, on the fourth line. no reason to spend this kind of cash on a player like this. Prust was good for us, but even 1.8 is too much let alone 2.2.

Bring in Ott, Moen.

Oh yeah, again I'm agreeing with you guys its too much, and I'm making a rare exception.

That said, the $$$ spent on Zucarello, who plays a speed game but does not have enough speed to make separation for offense at the NHL level, would be better repurposed on Prust + prospects.

That kind of money can do a lot for a family when he retires by the age 32 or 33... And once you pay taxes on that, pay the agent, etc it's probably half that. so i can see both sides. I would just like him back. he's a great part of our identity and protects a lot of guys from having to drop the mitts.

so if he retires at 32 or 33 he will not have any other means to make a living till the day he dies?

i would destroy my body and take that chance for a quarter of what he is asking for and if it is not worth it to him he can take his chances with mcdonalds minimum wage salary.

I would be surprised to see him beat 5.4 on the market.
Not to mention the fact that he has a better than average chance to win a cup with this team in the near future.

IMO it sounds like Slats posturing...all part of the game.

Prust was guaranteed a dumb penalty in every playoff game, and i hate to say it, but he is by far the dirtiest player on our team. I dont care what Torts says about him being the most "honest". He dove way too much and took way to many border line cheap shots behind the play/after the whistle.

I am just afraid Sather is going to get a goon for too much. I am fine with a 4th liner at a million like Konopka or Asham

McIlrath will be close after a yr in CT and he can beat people up.
