Johnson also is from same area of Michigan as Randy McKay, has met him, and said McKay put in a good word for him with Devils.

I am surprised we took Thomson. He's overaged and he seems more like a tough guy than anything else. I don't see him turning into a productive power forward, but I could be wrong.

I don't really like taking an overager without a lot of offensive upside this early, but if one of my favorite Devils players likes him enough to put in a good word for him, who am i to disagree. I also don't mind drafting two players named Ben, best name in the world.

McKay was talking about the other Ben, not this guy.

Can you blame anyone for getting the two confused, picked so close to each other no less?

I have watched Ben play as I am from Kitchener . He is one that is not afraid to drop the gloves and will protect your teammates and get down and dirty. He will score and produce the garbage. In a way he is like Clarkson but a better skater. His downfall is that he has potential to be a better scorer but tends to disappear for periods of times. He is frustrating to watch knowing he could be a better overall player . Hopefully being drafted he starts to perform the way he should be

Totally agree with this but we also needed help on the D and needed more O there and when we didn't take Bystrom with our 1st pick we failed.

Is his potential more towards Clarkson or Eric Boulton?

I can't wait for the Clarkson-Clarkson-Clarkson line in a few years.

Combines for 83 goals, 12 assists, 897 PIMS, no less than two Clarksons on their ass at the same time.

We're trying to fill our bottom 6 with Zubrus and Clarkson clones.

And an infinite amount of wraparounds and toe-drags per game.

Wow was that ever a knock out punch in that youtube video fight. Don't know a whole lot about this guy, perhaps Charlie Girl will visit this thread and give us some more insight.

I'm surprised Thomson got drafted. I don't think he's shown enough growth offensively to warrant a selection over where he was last year.

What you're getting is a big behemoth who can control the boards. His puck possession game in the corners and during the cycle is top notch. He's physical and will throw the body around, and is aggressive on the forecheck. Skating is OK for a guy his size. He's also defensively responsible. Offensively, he's basically a garbage goal guy. His shot, hockey sense, and puck skill lacks at this time, and I'm not sure it ever develops to the point where we're calling Thomson a potential scoring power forward.

Why can't I hold all these Clarkson similarities?

Kind of sounds like the kind of role Bernier played this year, but maybe with a little less skill.

Sounds like a waste at this pick with other more skilled forwards on the board at that point. Disappointing, but maybe they like his size if he can skate. But Brock is saying he isn't a great skater (just okay) so I'm scratching my head on this one. I'm no expert though.

This does sound like a wasted pick, all the highlights of him I could find are him beating the tar out of someone. But you never know, so let's give him a chance.

He`s a Kitchener Ranger, you`d think DeBoer got a solid info on him and passed it to Lou.

96th overall might be a "little bit" high for a guy like Thomson though.

I like the fact that Lou and Conte decided to go after some bigger, more physical players this draft. Previous drafts were about speed and finesse, which they got in Tedenby and Josefson among others. Being a bigger team isn't a bad thing.

I'll actually be very pleased if this kid can turn out to be like a Chris Neil type of player.
