Schenn alone is not enough for JVR but is too much for Simmonds (imo he is a REALLY good 3rd liner and an okay 2nd liner). I would not want to trade Schenn for a really good 3rd liner (you can find them in FA - minus Army :p)
Schenn wasn't bad because of Ron Wilson's evil 'offensive system'. He was bad because he doesn't think the game very quickly in the first place and he put on too much weight, giving him even less time to make decisions.
IMO if Schenn improves his skating, his skillset still ultimately limits him to being a #3-4 defenseman at the NHL level at best, so including him in a trade for a bona fide top-six forward is a no-brainer.
JVR is hardly a bona fide top-six forward, and has had some injury problems early in his career, so it's a bit of a risky trade but I think I'd still do it. His upside is definitely higher than that of Schenn's.
Personally I'd rather include Schenn in a package deal for a better, more proven top-six guy (if possible), but I couldn't complain about JVR.

When Wheeler became a UFA, he announced he was going to Boston a week or 2 before he was allowed to sign the deal. So we may not need to wait. Sounds to me like he hasn't made up his mind, although he may be leaning.

If Khabibulin is included, you better believe a contract is going the other way.

Now people, we need to stop looking for 1:1 trades or getting 2-3 assets for 1 of our players. We need an upgrade at forward, so pick the position you want to upgrade, and the player currently in that position, add Franson or Gunnarson and trade 2-3 players for a serious upgrade. Stop with the sideways moves, we need improvement. We have the depth to upgrade key positions.
Franson-Bozak and a 2nd to upgrade the #1 center.
or
Gunnarson-Kulemin and a prospect to upgrade Kulemins 2nd line wing position.
